Default Dash fun Never Ends

Confession time: What a frustrating month. I got the HUD kit from Josh during the GP he had a while back. When I did get around to putting it in I did a major screw up and cut the hole in the dash 1/16th inch to big. Man was I pizzed at myself, I still am really. I tried a friend who does vinyl repair, after two weeks he could not fix it. I talked to Gene and he had one, so I send him a check and wait for the replacement. I got an email from him over the weekend some "nice person" (my trying to be nice term) ran a forklift through it during shipping...AARRGGG!!! Of course that was the last dash Gene had that was perfect, so now I am back to square one.

So now my car has been apart for a month, it is killing me not to have it to drive, and I think I am going to have to put it back together screwed up until I find a dash. When I get it back together I will post some pics of the screw up. My wife says you can barely see, it, I say it drive me freaking crazy. I am so pizzed at myself.

Hope you can find a replacement dash soon. I'm like you, even if it is not noticable to others, as the owner you just know that your baby is not like you wanted it to turn out.

A friend of mine did the same thing and he used some rubber trim around it and it looks good. You might try something like that until you find a new dash. Jimmy

Wow... 1/16th of an inch isn't very much...I can' even see my HUD except in the reflection on the inside of the windshield., or through the windshield from the outside...or maybe if I stared at it from the passenger seat...what about a fancy little plastic boarder or rubber or plastic L shaped gasket around the hole?...Good luck with the fix

I cannot see it in the drivers seat, but when you look through the windshield it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Go to Home Depot and get some black caulk. Take your time and it might come out looking OK

Default It Continues...

Well, I decided that I would give the interior repair guy another try, dash is no good to me as it is. So he comes and works on it at least 3 hours, and makes it look decent. No gap, he had to blend the dash into the HUD bezel which looks ok, except for the sides are not blended, so it looks kinda strange.

He had told me before that he thought it would be $70-$80 , when I ask him how much, $180...dayum, the replacement from Gene was less than that. I know he has at least 5 hours of labor in it, so it is not like he is gouging me, but I would not have done it had I known it was going to be that much.

It looks ok, we will see what it looks like when I get it in the car, I have a feeling I am going to end up with a new dash anyway, just to satisfy myself.

When the gauge bezels get here, hopefully this week, I am going to put it back in, and I will post pics then.

I was going to replace my dash and called GM with my wholesale price, it was going to cost me over $800. I am just keeping what I have for now.

I looked several places but not there, I probably should not even ask, because they are going to have one for less that what I just spent and I am going to be pi$$ed.
