How often do you guys change your Mobil 1?
3,000 miles?
3 month?
Do a quick search, this subject has been
Me, I change it when the DIC tells me to or at least once a year, which ever comes first. (That is what the owners manual, service manual, and E-T says to do.)
Eddie said that my 01 has had the oil changed once since December 2000.....course it only has 7,400 miles on it..... I am planning on changing it at about 50% of life left.....or once a year.....which ever comes first......
Just curious what the community is doing.
I heard that for most cars, 3,000 miles or 3 months is a scam.
For synthetic, I've read anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 miles.
Thanks for the input guys.
1 time per year...Long winters here in WI. I change it when I get the car out of storage, I'm a little late this year I just changed it today with about 1000 miles on it..

What much of the community is doing is living twenty or thirty years in the past and trying to rationalise those actions by seducing others through the time-honoured practice of spreading fear, uncertainty and doubt.
What someone living in the year 2006 should be doing is taking responsibility for their own education and actions such as by reading their owner's manual and taking advantage of today's technology. Why is that so hard?
change your oil the next convenient time after the DIC tells you 10% remaining. Do not go more than 500 miles past 0%. Always change the oil at least once a year. Use only a fully synthetic 5W30 (or 10W30) that meets GM4718M
Man - here's a topic that has been discussed and argued to death. There is absolutely no reason to change your oil at specific mileage intervals unless you like pouring money down the toilet. The only ones that benefit from those 3K oil changes are the oil companies producing the oil, the makers of the oil filters and whomever you choose to change the oil. (assuming that you don't change it yourself).
Have you guys read the owner's manual? Have you guys seen the oil life monitor on the Driver Information Center? When it says 50% OIL LIFE REMAINING what does that mean?
If I had a pot full of gold coins and spent half of them - and had 50% remaining, should I just pitch the pot and the remaining gold in the trash and say "Screw it, it's not 100% full, so I don't want it anymore."?
GM spent considerable time and energy developing the oil life monitor, not to mention the technology that went into developing full synthetic oils, and we continue to insist to ignore this technology and revert back to some 1950's notion that you have to change your oil every 3 months or 3K miles, whatever comes first.
Bottom line - I trust my DIC and change my oil when it says I have 1 or 2 percent oil life remaining. There is no magic hand that comes down and crushes the LS1 rendering it to a useless pile of junk if you go past the point where it says CHANGE OIL.
Read and heed what it says in the owner's manual.
Well said. I don't understand the rational of some people on this topic. Their logic does not compute.
I also find it humerous how some people relate oil life to the lunar calender, you know, change it every trip around the sun. Comical.
since i only put 3000-5000 per year on my c5, the oil/filter gets changed once per year. i usually change it in the fall before i store it for the winter. i use dino oil in my 85, and i usually change it twice per year, about every 5000 miles. both my corvettes are daily drivers, but i tend to put twice as many miles on the c4.
