Default Service Steering Column

A couple of years ago, I noticed the "Service Steering Column" displayed. At that time, I took my '00 Vette into the dealer for the factory recall and everything seemed OK after that. Today, that message is back and I can't get it to go away, although I can drive it and I have no problem. But, I don't want to keep driving it with that message. Any advice?

Lastly, has anyone experienced a near dead battery after your Vette sits for a couple of weeks? After I drive it, it's fine and seems fully charged. But that idle 14 day period seems to drain the battery. Guess I can't complain. It's the original battery for a 2000 Vette. Thanks!!

First of all, get a column lock bypass and install it on the car. Should clear up your messages. Then get a new battery like an Exide Orbital or Optima Red Top - before the stock one leaks and messes up wiring and the computer under the battery tray.

The computer looks at several aspects of the car in order to operate the active handling system. There is a sensor on the steering column that reports the rate of change of steering input to the computer. I suspect that the sensor or its connection has started to have some trouble, or its wiring somewhere along the way to the computer. It IS true, that sometimes battery problems masquerade by causing all sorts of problems to report themselves, when they don;t really exist at all....just a battery problem.

Good luck!

Get a battery tender plus

Also a yellow top optima,if you don't drive it to often, deep cycle will recharge better than a regular battery
