I've been running the Blackwing for about four years and so far it has performed very well. The car is definitely more responsive with it on compared to the stock setup. Plus, the Blackwing looks good under the hood.

Does your mod allow water to enter the filter area? Do you have a better picture (possibly from below) to show more of the scoup? It seems like a good mod. Good work

Well, I drove my C5 in pouring rain for 20+ minutes and after pulling into my garage, I checked the bottom of the Warhead filter. It was damp, but that was the extent of any water intrusion. One of the nice things about not fully enveloping the filter with a box is that the chance of hydrolock is greatly diminished. The other nice thing is that some of the cooling air enters the engine bay. THAT's gotta be a good thing in my book!

Unfortunately, I do not have pics of the assembled scoop as installed. Its height is at or above the height of the fog lights, so I don't worry too much about puddles or low-flying objects.
Originally, I machined a PVC scoop with a much less agressive opening. A CF member told me about the wall pocket and at first, I questioned its durability, especially with such a large opening. He told me that he had his up to 175 MPH on the track and the "unbreakable" polycarbonate scoop lived up to its name - no problems whatsoever. Since I installed my scoop, I've taken my C5 up to 145 with no issues.
Anyway, I hope that eases any fears you may have of doing this mod.

Any issues with sucking up water?? Also I have always wondered how much cooler the air taken in REALLY is over the regular setup, like 2 degrees???

oops, just read the post right above this one. I guess that answeres the water issue.

I have a Blackwing on mine. I drilled three 2" holes in the plastic scoops where the foglights are to let cool air in. I don't have any specific intake air temps, but I'll put it like this: My wife drove my car once and when she parked it in the garage, she left the garage door up because there was so much heat coming from the car that she was afraid that it would set off the smoke detectors (yea, you and I know it wouldn't,but she didn't). Now, I can pull the car in on a 90 degree day and pop the hood and you can barely feel any heat at all in the engine compartment. Huge difference, and this is the same air that is going in the breather.

I measured a whopping 37 degree difference (between my CAI and no-CAI setup) in intake air temps after stop & go driving and then driving on the highway for 20 minutes. Drilling holes in the foglight covers is a good idea, although the cold air does mix with hot engine bay air - the result being ingested air that is not quite as cold as ambient air that is pulled in from outside the car, especially at slower speeds.

I have the blackwing on my vert and it works great but now i have the Tiger shark front end and it lets a hole lot more air in I think i am starting to have some surgeing problems at highway speed and when i come up to a stop light the car wants to miss are load up almost to the point where it might want to stall so I am looking at ways to fix the problem now.

A dyno tune should fix that problem quickly. Z06 owners have long had surging issues after installing an aftermarket intake, primarily because of their screenless MAF. Still, the symptoms are similar.
