As someone who took a wrecked sports car that sat abandoned in the Arizona desert for a dozen years and transformed it into a 1st Place Best in Class trophy winner for the last three years running, I wish you all the luck you will be needing and then some. I spent three years and did all the work myself, but there was no frame damage, at least. So, I am very interested in seeing what you are capable of doing with that car, in just three weeks!! I think you may be a little optimistic on the time frame, considering you don't even have your parts lined up yet!! You go, boy, GO!
Paid $10,330. I know that some people don't even look at salvage cars, but like I said, that's all I could afford. So little by little, it'll get there...
$10,330?
For that?
and it needs frame work?
What part of hydro-formed frame rails don't you understand?
You're not serious.....
You could have got a clean car with the same miles for less than the cost of that car and the parts are going to cost, if you do it yourself, and if you have to pay someone....... sweet Jesus...
Hey, nevermind the bad vibe a few people will post. What you know you can do many can't so they just don't understand your point of view. You sound comfortable with what you have started and thats all that matters anyway. I commend you an taking on such a project and the end result will be one saved C5, plus your gonna love the car! Have a great time gettin er done and when you are enjoy.
Good luck and look forward to seeing how it turn out,
Thanks fellas. I'll definitely keep you updated. The reason I bought it was exactly because it wasn't hit in the front, but in the back. The biggest problem will be the inside of the trunk, the big fiberglass piece, which is around $900. I'll be taking everything off tomorrow and getting it ready to be put on the frame machine sometime this week, which will give me time to gather up some parts. I'll snap some photos on the way.
There are some that can take on a project, and there's others that shouldn't. You sound like you can. I apologize for al of the previous negative feedback you've gotten thusfar. It sure does look like a lot of work, but a friend of mine rebuilt a fighter jet in his back yard, so, I know that anything is possible. I, do however feel though, that you might have gotten a better deal by spending not even a lot more money. That being said; I wish you well and definately post the play by play pics to shut up all of the nay-sayers.
Man I am really interested in seeing this work for you. I have been looking on ebay for a few salvaged vehicles, thinking hey it really may not be that bad. I saw a few porsches, and other cars but i changed my mind because I cant do the work myself. Good luck and I cant wait to see the pics.

Hey, back in the 60s I put myself through school rebuilding vettes. To me it doesn't look that bad. I'm sure you've done your homework before spending that kind of money. Should be a lot of parts out there since most vettes get the front end destroyed. Of course you can't take it to a body shop there's a reason they totalled it, too much $$. Good luck you'll be fine. Post pictures, can't wait.
Best wishes to you Konrad! I'm looking forward to the "after" pictures.
However, what is your budget for getting this done? I'm confused since you said that $10,330 was all you could afford for the donor car, but also that you planned to have it on the road reasonably soon. Where is the money coming from for the rebuild parts?
I just think it's unfortunate that you could end up with over $20k in this project and still have a rebuilt title...that's all.

Best of luck with your project, Marine!
I have a lot of admiration for someone willing and aparently able to tackle a project of this type. It's not something that I have the talent or the expertise to do. Post up some pics when you have it completed.
