If you are approaching this as a project car and you are in no hurry to get it done then have fun. However if you were looking to pick up a Corvette cheap and be driving ASAP (which it what it sounds like to me), I am not sure if I would have gone this route. I would guesstimate parts and labor will run at least 10K. There are running Vettes out there to be had for around 20K that don't come with a salvage title.

Having said all that I do wish you luck. You ceratinly have your work cut out for you. Keep us posted with your progress...

After all said and done the car will probably end up costing u in the $20k range.. I would part out the car u just got and wait a year and get a non accidented one. It will take over a year to get it all fixed any way. Good luck with it !!

I think the man said that he will do a good portion of the work himself, having said that he must have some skills. I think that he will have that car on the road soon and i am looking forward to the pics. He will appreciate his car like we do ours.

I actually looked into that and found one for $2300. The trunk tub is the most expensive piece, everything else shouldn't be bad. If I won't find everything by the end of this week, I'll go for the clip and just swap parts out.

Post pictures, can't wait.
Thanks, those are exactly my thoughts and were when I bought it. Like I said, I've done something like that with a Maxima about two years ago and learned from it. When I read the replies, I sit and smile because half of them think that I'm crazy and can't be done, while the other half is behind me with fingers crossed. It'll be interesting to see people's reaction.

Good luck, it looks like a lot of hard work, but I had a friend who took a rusted heap of a 32 Model A and turned it into a Car show power house that has won 6 straight Best of Show awards. However, you might consider this. There is a website ( I can remember the name of it) that sells salvaged and insurance pay off on Corvettes. Most are fresh water flooded but some are from wrecks and what not. Anyways, they have 2004 Z06 that some punks took for a joyride and blew the engine. They were asking $8000. I saw the pics, everything looked like a perfectly good car, until you looked under the hood. If you can find that website and drop your motor in that body, strip the badges off you would have a sweet ride for a mere $19K invested....

I use to run across the website all the time, they had all the high end cars too. I just wish I had got that Z06... $8K, I think I could have doubled that in factory parts. or dropped a crate motor in for a bargin DD.

Best of luck getting it back in shape. Pretty optimistic for a three week project, but if you can do it, .

However, what is your budget for getting this done? I'm confused since you said that $10,330 was all you could afford for the donor car, but also that you planned to have it on the road reasonably soon. Where is the money coming from for the rebuild parts?

I just think it's unfortunate that you could end up with over $20k in this project and still have a rebuilt title...that's all.
As far as parts, the key is to find used and abused, but usable and make it original. The frame will get fixed sometime this week by a shop that me and my family have been using for years. The owner said he'll help as much as he can and not charge me full rate. After that it's just getting it painted, which most likely I will have to pay off to a buddy of mine who paints hot rods. Keep in mind, this isn't going to be done at a Chevy dealership. I only have about $2500 on the repairs, not including painting it (I bet I will get responses saying "you're nuts" with this figure)

Look at that Right Rear wheel, see how far forward it is pushed? So, whaddya tink, did the A-arms get it too? Crack the tranny case?
Apparently you have as much understanding of what Hydro-formed frame rails as our friend. Even if he pulls them close to where they were.....ah fergettit, you guys are right , he can fix it, anything can be fixed........................ with enough time and money.

Regardless of how the final "pictures" turn out, this should be the parts car for a car that got hit in front.

I guess some people don't value their time, unless......

Wow, first started looking at the pics and all i could see was what appeared to be some luggage in the bra. Then I saw the back shots! Good luck, hope it works out for you.

Curious, you say you think you'll get by on $2500 in parts. Tub for the back is $900? How much does a hatch and glass cost? Also how's the drivetrain? You say it runs good, but can it move? Is the torque tube bent? How's the trans and output shafts? Gas tank survived ok? Just seriously trying to get an idea of those kinds of costs, as I have no idea.

You've got bigger gonads than me to take this on, but here's to ya:

Now go show us those "after" pictures.

I've seen wrecks on Ebay for 1/2 that cost and about the same amount of damage and WAY less mileage (on an 01). I've also had alot of friends end up in the same situation, buy a car they really cant afford because it is cheap, then think that the price is going to be this rediculously small amount to put the car back together. Ten years later, the cars are sitting in the same spot.

I can almost guarantee with a hit like that something will be wrong with the tranny. These cars, anything smacked or bumped hurts the vehicle - especially when the tires are misaligned as much as that (plus damage on the front as well (and a flat tire). This looks like a guy who was doing donuts, spun on ice/water, or was going lightspeed and spun (probably the last one).

What fluid is that behind the tire? Gasoline? Fuel tank hit? You need to replace the rear bumper, possible electronics, the hatch, the pillar, maybe the glass top, the driver side door, you have a flat tire (odds are all have to be replaced), new rims, front end was hit as well, new rear lights (maybe front, who knows), new exhaust, probably tranny, springs and the frame. Does the car even run? Is the F45 ride control screwed up? What else is wrong with it since you havent even driven it???? Well, hope you have ALOT of time and money...

As well, alot of you are going on about the "good luck" and "if you can do it, do it". Dose of Reality - sell that hunk of junk and try to get back whatever amount of money you still can!! Then in another year or two buy a Corvette that has no damage (or one thats very lightly damaged with no special title if you want to do some work to it). Seriously, whats the difference? Save up and buy an 01 or whatever year your looking for or put more money into fixing this one?

Even if you put it back together and try to sell it, that salvage title will equal a sheetload less in resale then a clean title.

Sorry to say it to you sir, but this is the worst buy I've seen in a VERY long time! Its one thing when someone buys a car for $500 that has problems when they're strapped for cash and the parts are another $500, its a big difference when you purchase a car for $10k with serious damage and are looking at way over $10k to fix it (even doing alot of the work yourself), especially when your saying your strapped for cash as well. This thread is big

I would sell this for whatever you can and try to buy a 97 - 99 for around $15k with no damage and 60k miles. They're out there!
