Tonight I was parking my Z06 and killed the motor. I tried to restart but half way through the start ALL electrical went suddenly and completely dead. The only sound I could hear was some clicking from the headlights. Every light was out completely.
I have had it towed back and it's in my garage. The battery cable was really hot when I disconnected it. We tried to jump start it with the tow truck, but he didn't have enough power to do anything but click the starter solenoid. There seems to be a direct short to ground. Although, it could be the battery.
I don't know. I am going to put in a new battery, the old one is an original AGM battery from the year 2000. I picked up this 2001 Z06 new in Aug 2000. At least there wasn't a fire or smoke.
I suppose the battery could suddenly go bad, just "SNAP" and completely gone. I've never had a battery do that before.
I've had batteries go like that. A bad cell suddenly goes on the next surge of current during a start. I had a 5 year old Delco AGM and it was having trouble keeping more than a 60% charge.
Also, check all the cable connections. A hot battery cable signals a poor contact.

Just happened to my son the other night in is '03 Ranger. He was trying to leave work. The battery let go -- just like that. AAA gave him a jump, but he said that weird stuff was still happening on the drive home. Speedo needle was bouncing around, reading 10-15 MPH when he wasn't even moving, dash lights flickering, etc. Popped a new battery in the next morning and everything was back to normal. With all the electronics in modern vehicles these days, a marginal to bad battery connection or bad battery can show all kinds of strange symptoms. It's why I like to keep a '60's era car in my garage. They're a lot easier to figure out.

:toe tap: After 6 years you Think it could be the battery

It was the battery. I put a new $35 Walmart battery in and life is GOOD!
How long do you suppose a $35 WM battery will last? I thought getting 6 years, almost to the day, was pretty good for an AGM Delco. There again, I have 38,000 miles on my F1 Super Car tires and they still have tread.

Must be my good looks!
Spend the $$ (~$100) and get the Red top, or ~$130 a Yellow top.

I would have, but these are getting very bad reviews on this forum. I'm down to thinking batteries are individuals. Why would so many AGMs go out in the first year? Mine lasted 6. The red and yellow tops are either lasting or not.
It's the luck of the draw. Also, I don't like being forced to have top posts exposed that i NEVER use.
