First of all - I'm bored, so I'm coming up with ways to entertain myself.
That being said, I only use my radar detector on road trips b/c it goes off too often in the city. I wanted something easy to put up, and take down. The suction cups finally rotted out, and I couldn't find a proper replacement, so......
Materials needed: Radar Detector, Super Glue, Rubber Band
Step 1: Glue 2 strips of a rubber band to the bottom of the radar detector.
Not yet - I'm heading out of town early in the morning, but will mostly be on long straight highways, which is about the only place that POS detector is good for anyway!!
Beleive it or not, I bought that thing for $100 about 6 years ago, and it still works like a champ. If a V1 would add 10rwhp, I'd be all over it, otherwise, I'm sticking with the cheap stuff.
I have done the velcro thing for years. No problem
When I sell the car I just remove the velcro, a little work and its gone no damage to the dash. No one that has bought any of my cars could even tell that it was ever there.
As a cheap person I use one detector (V1) on 4 different vechicles. All have the same velcro setup.
Rather than velcro or pieces of rubber bands.........look around at Auto Parts stores and Office Supply stores for a "Sticky Pad". Or search Google.
These are a rubber like material that has enough surface tackyness to hold to your dash and anything pladed on top. Escorts, V1s, singlassses, cell phones, iPods.......you name it.
Yet they remove with no residue on either side. I have used them for years..........a very useful thing.
I placed two large ones inside my vette's glove box, now the stuff in there doesn't fly out when I open it.
I also use one to hold my Escort 8500 and my 4600 before that.
I think detectors are more effective when mounted higher. I spent $0 on this setup too, and gets it off the dash, and wires directly to the mirror power so it's automatic.
