You say you need the truck for work - do you have to have a new truck? Maybe you could get by with an older truck.
Bottom line is owning a Vette is a great experience. It's most every little boy's dream. It was mine. I had to wait 45 years (I got it when I was 49) until life and all of it's speedbumps were behind me. At least you got to "taste" it for a while. You'll be back in a Vette before you know it. As much as I love my car - and I'm sure that you love yours - it is not the single most important thing in your life. Responsibilities come first.
Best of luck to you and hang in there.
I drove beaters for years so I could keep my 68. I had a 68 Cougar, a 75 Monte Carlo, a Mazda RX3, and now a Mazda MX6 GT. All did what they needed to do (drive kids to the dentist, etc). Besides, it's kinda nice having an older car when you need to park in undesirable areas.
I know this will sound strange, but, props to you my friend. It takes a big man to give up his vette and do the right thing about the family finances. It's that sort of tough decision now that will make your next vette the best ever. Guilt free vette experiences...nothing better! Don't give up the forum!
There will always be other vettes out there. It only took me 10 years to get another after I sold my 1st 76 vette but I guarantee you you'll love your next one even better.
A man's gotta do what a man must do and it sounds like you understand the priorities.
Family first! "Needs" trump "wants". Your family needs a truck, you want a Vette.
Good luck buying your next Vette.
