Default Radar Detector Wire

I recently purchased a sunvisor mount for my Escort detector and now would like to hot wire it in. Found a group of wires by the fuse box but not sure which wire to splice into. Please advise---Thanks!

Radio fuse has worked for me in the past. You will need a wire that is not hot all the time and only when the key is on or when the engine is running.

Default radar wire

Read your manual. There is a fused wire in the fuse box under the passenger side dash that can be used for something like a radar detector. The wire and connector is there for you to use. I found it but didn't bother to use it.

There's a V1 hardwire install in tech tips with pics, this should work for you too.

Why not wire it to the power connector for the rear view mirror?

Best idea. Check out Invisicord. I just did it.

BTW.... no power connection for his 2004 in the passenger area.

Since most radar detectors are mounted by the rear view mirror, it seems easier to run a 6 inch power cord, rather than a 3 foot one.

Good way to go. Looks good and only about $10. I believe they are a forum vender but do a search on invisacord.

You don't need to buy anything to connect it to your mirror power. Just a cheapo multi-tester to see which wire's hot with the ignition on, and which wire's a good ground. Most DIYers have this tool anyway.

I made my own cord using a piece of black phone cord.

Remove the mirror, disconnect the connector for easy access.
On a 99 mirror the Orange wire is hot and the Black is ground
On the phone cord use the Red for hot and Green for ground

Strip the phone cords extra long, then double or triple fold and twist them. Use a small tip screwdriver to tuck the stripped wires under the connectors on the mirror and put a dab of hot glue on them to hold them in place.
Route the phone cord up the mirrir cord and under the head liner lip and over to the mount.

Simple and fast, works great
