They are mistaken. The best way to fix your problem is to do this. Open your trunk. Put down some type of blanket. Take out a nice size hammer. Support and brace your leggs. Raise hammer, in hand, above your head and strike with 120 foot pounds of force.
Repeat until the CD changer is in 1,000,000 pieces.
Wrap up the blanket, with all the little pieces in it, and dispose of.
THen go out and BUY a new Alpine radio that has a Direct connect Ipod connection. Buy a 20gb ipod, and put 5,000 songs on the ipod.

No more skipping, bouncing, in the music.
Well I would usualy try this butfigured I would keep the factory setup for now. I do have the 20G ipod but dont always have it in the car with me so I wanted the cd changer to work for now.
Dont have the $$ fo rht enew radio yet. Just bought the car.
Ignore the naysayers about the ridding the world of cd changers. They may be correct, but I love my changer. That said, it sounds like you have a problem with the head unit if you can't even play a single cd. Since the dealer took it apart, it may be that something is not connected. Unlikely since you get an error message.
mine did that and i unplugged it indefinitly, plugged in my ipod...worked great for about six months!...got my ipod stolen this weekend...plugged in my cd changer just to see...and behold it started working!!!
Take out the cartridge and see if all of the CD disc's are in the cartridge.
The guy working on your car disconnected the battery while a disc was playing and now the disc is jammed in the player.
My dealer so called mechinec ruined my player that way and it cost me $200.00 to get a used replacement.
I still have My original player with the disc still jammed in it. I can't find a single repair shop that can fix it.Pioneer makes the unit but the cord needed to check and repair is a GM only item that the repair shops can not purchase from pioneer. My dealer told me for him to send it for repai may cost up to 3 or 4 hundred dollars.
If you had 12 discs , you probably only have 11 in your cartridge now.

Well I do have all my cd out of the unit and ran a cleaning cd in it but that did not work either. Oh well. Back to dlr..
What has me confused is that BOTH the CD changer and the indash unit is not working.
mine has a different issue, it will play a single CD in the head unit but does not show the CD changer is there,m have replaced changers, have replaced the fuse, have tried everything with no joy, and when opening the door to remove the cartridge, NOTHING happens, seems I lost power, now the real funny part, I took it apart, and removed the cartridge, put in one CD in the changer, it worked!, filled the changer with 12 CD's and no work, and no symbol on the head unit, I think mine is haunted
Well I just did some more trouble shooting and this is what I found out.
The head unit will not take ANY type of cd. Home made or store bought. ERR all over the place.
I took all the cd out of the changer and unpluged it.
Tried the head unit again. ERR
Pluged teh cd changer back in and now it see the CDs. I can cycle the cd but cannot get them to play. When I hit the recall button to get rid of the ERR msg (per the manual) it still will not work.
I think the issue is with the head unit. Must be since it wont read a CD. Wont even take the cleaning CD I bought.
I bought a new head unit from a 2004 that had never been used for $109 on a well known auction site. My original had cassette and I wanted an in dash cd that would still operate my changer. If you'd like a head unit with cassette that will operate your changer, we can talk. Used head units are not expensive and not hard to change.
