Default Start button ignition...possible??

Yes, I'm completely bored and thinking up some new mods....

Is there a way to wire up a start button for ignition like the s2000's and the like??

Scott.

Yup, it has been done. I think the last time I saw it done the member used a button from an s2000...

Been thinking of it as well...

Sounds like a mod as long as you could keep the security features - kind of like what the C6 offers (have to have the fob within range, etc).

That would probably be a lot more trouble than it's worth. Easiest way would probably be to just wire the push button in through the ignition switch. Kind of cheesy considering you'd have to put the key in the ignition still anyway, but still gets the job done by letting you push the button.

That's what I was thinking. In the s2000, you need to put the key in, then push the start button. It's mostly a coolness mod, you know, something to make the ricers say coooollll dude...

Anyway, anyone have a schematic of the ignition switch?? Might have to jump in on this one....

the 7 series late model BMW has to have the key in the ignition and then the push button to start the car . coolness feature at best . if i am going to use a key , I would just rather turn it to start the car . the good mod would be to start the car with the key in your pocket ( driver recognition)
And i would think that would be almost impossible

Not at all. Get yourself a remote start, and then just start banging on your pocket as you walk to the car. You'll hit the right button eventually.

I say mad the ignition to recognize your fingerprint. That is the best anti-theft there is unless you loose your finger...then your goosed.

Give it time. With the increasing popularity of carputers, it's only a matter of time before someone figures out how to integrate a fingerprint identifier into the carputer than runs through the ignition of a car. Give you the capability to power up to get everything turned on then you have to fingerprint identify before starting capability is enabled. It probably wouldn't be that difficult of a thing to do actually.

Think about it carefully before you put in a biometric starter system:

It's amazing how life comes full circle... We had push buttons for the starters on old trucks back in the late 40 and early 50's...

When my '68 Chevy truck's ignition switch died on the starter portion of the switch in the late 70's when I was a kid, I wired in a push button that required me to put the key in to the "on" position and then I could "Hit the starter button!" to hear the engine roar to life!!! Woo-HOO!!!

Yeah, I was cool... only guy around... You could have hot wired that truck in less than 30 seconds... Good thing it wasn't worth much!!

Lol....

Been there and done that. It was way cool for a few weeks, but then it got old and tedious.

I used this in the ashtray area for a button - http://www.autotoyaz.com/enstpubu.html

And yes, I am a Ricer

How did I guess you already have done this.......I knew it was a matter of time before you spotted this tread....

Guess great minds think alike, unless we both have way too much time to sit around and think about vette mods....

How is it wired in? Do directions come with 'the button' or is there a how-to somewhere?

Is it a momentary switch, or something more fancy? I'm gonna be installing a python alarm system, and it has a momentary switch that I was thinking of replacing...

Yea, just thought of the next mod, after headers and sway bars.....

Ive got the headers and sways waiting for me when I get home from offshore, and think I'm gonna do the alarm at the same time now. Gonna get the ir sensor for the vert and voice warning module....oh yea baby....

Funny that this was mentioned.
I am currently working with a bluetooth device that will let me load music into an mp3 type device like Ipod and also have a sort of bluetooth key that will recognize me without using a formal key (as long as I have the Bluetooth device in my pocket) and then I can enable also the push bottom start
