The glass in the my vert is falling out. Has anyone had this problem? I got my car back from the Dealership and they told me to take it to a upholstery shop and they told me I had to replace my top??? What the heck is that? So if my glass got broken by a rock they have to replace the top???

The way that it's been explained to me is, the cloth top shrinks over time and pulls away from the glass. It does eventually require a new top. My car is being retopped now due to the same issue.
As far as having a broken back glass, I don't know if it could be replaced independent of the top.
Im going to try and call GM and find out why you have to replace a top if the glass is bad. I guess I dont get the why the top as anything to do with the glass.

Another member had the same problem and he posted this. I saved it for a "rainy day":
"This just happened to me 6 weeks ago. Went to Home Depot and found "Perfect Glue 2", made my Liquid Nails. They had a perfect glue 1 but #2 sounded like the right one to use. I put in on with the top up, ran a bead from where it separated in the middle of the window all the way across to the other side. Then I applied pressure with 3 rolls of paper towels and let it sit for 3 hours. I drove 500 miles to SC, drive started with lots of rain from N. VA. thru Richmond, VA. Still holding good at this time, this on a 2000 vert.

I haven't (thankfully) had to replace the top on my C5, but I did on the Z28 I had. The glass on it (z28) can actually be replaced without replacing the top and I believe the C5 is the same. The problem is, you pretty much have to remove the entire top to do the glass and reinstalling the top is apparently very difficult. I ended up paying about $100 more to do the top and glass than doing just the glass would have cost.
By the way... the glue thing will work for a while. I did that for some time using 3M adhesive, but the results wern't that great.

Right before I bought my '95 ,the window came undone from the top(heat sealed) and the dealership told me a new top was needed( ) and I took it to a good upholstery shop and they put it back in with clear 100% silicone and it has stayed in place for 5 years now...so don't tell me a new top is needed please
I had this happen on my 94 and went to and used a windshield sealant, my top was black so didn't have to worry if it smudged on the top I drove it for 3 years that way and no problem.

The glass can be resealed to the top, as mine has been at least once before, but the material will eventually shrink to the point that it pulls away again and requires a new top. I attempted to seal mine again before I sent it in for a new top. I used a JB Weld product and it lasted 1 day after much cleaning and prep work. At any rate, good luck with your top!

I will keep looking for a good upholstery shop I did not like the last one. I think he was just looking to sell me a top. Like I wold get it from him
Thanks

I think I would do it myself(with the help of someone to hold the glass while I guided it in for a landing ) the next time it happens...I saw how they did it and it wasn't difficult...they used 2 triangular wood blocks to hold it in place until the sealant set up...also they used 2 large suction cups on the outside(to hold the glass) while someone guided it into place from the inside...
