I don't have it, but I've thought about getting it if I get rid of the run-flats on the vette..
I think I read that they offer flat-bed towing.. I figured that might make it worth it..
I'd love to hear some good/bad AAA stuff.
Am I thinking correctly???
I've tried every battery known to man and still need a replacement every 18 months. I'm now on my 3rd AAA, all I do is call and they replace free at my door under warranty.
I agree, I would not leave the house with out it. I lost the water pump out of my old Hot Rod truck at a car show this summer. Had to wait till it was over, they had the flat bed there 10 minutes after the show closed.
When the wife gets a flat or needs help and I'm not around then she uses it.
I was with a buddy last year, I took him to pick up a 65 stang he bought and it broke after the first 5 miles on a 60 mile trip. He got a free ride home. Funny, when I was driving him up there to get the car in my Vett I asked if he had AAA and he said no, he didn't see the value in it. He called and bought it the next day.
For those of you that have State Farm auto insurance, I'm sure that you know about the roadside assistance package for $4.60 per year...don't you?
I've used the GM auto assistance for a tow under warranty...they sent a flatbed without me asking. The guy was so good, the car was on the truck in less than 5 minutes. On the way to the dealership, we were talking...he won't do AAA because he only gets reimbursed $17 for a tow. With State Farm or the GM auto club, or even Allstate's motor club, you can pick th company of your choice. With AAA, you're stuck with AAA contracted trucks (low bidder). For info, with Allstate, your spouse is covered under your membership (don't know about GM); with AAA, you have to pay (full price) for each membership. With Allstate & GM, you are covered, no matter what car you are driving. With State Farm, each driver that wants roadside assistance coverage has to pay the $2.30 every 6 months.
Have had AAA for decades..especially like the RV policy add-on as it includes motorcycle towing. Have never/ever had anything but good experiences with them.
I have the Premier membership. When I got attacked by the dreaded column lock, they flatbedded the car to the dealer at no charge. Also, if you drop the phrase, "Do you give AAA discounts?" when you go to certain tire and auto stores, you get a 10% discount. I even got a discount on admission when I went to the Camden Aquarium.
Just wondering if/what you guys tip the driver after a tow? Especially if it's for the Vette.
I used AAA once...it has paid for itself. My Toyota 4-Runner got a flat on I-70 in the middle of frickin nowhere Ohio. The spare tire was stored underneath and the mechanism to lower it had rusted in place...couldn't lower the tire. AAA sent someone out at 2:30 a.m. Had to wait about an hour...towed 50 + miles. I tipped the driver big. He was friendly, profesional and available in the middle of the night. AAA woke him up at home.
I have it as both of our cars don't have roadside assistance. I look at it as insurance, mainly for the wife. Their maps and tourbooks are nice also but not worth the cost of admission alone.
From: sometimes the lights are shining on me, other times i can barely see minnesota
i've had it since i was a kid, living in minnesota i feel its a must in the winter especially. plus i can use it on work vehicles and would never be without it
I've had it for 30 some years and I think it's worth it.
same here...I have cost them a fortune over the years... ...towings, ran out of gas , dead batteries, stuck in snow, stuck in mud, stuck in water, stuck in BFE,stuck at drive-in-movies when I was a teenager(boy was that embarrassing:o ), locked keys in car(many times)...they provide money orders, trip planning, etc,and tons of other crap...
have had them for many years. Never used with the vettes....but used many times with other cars...and they are well worth it! Once good tow and you have paid your premium for the year.
Dont know if its the same in your stae but in CA, you can do nearly all DMV transactios at the AAA office. No lines, worth every peeny just for that feature as our DMVs are alwaysextreamly crowded.
BUT!!!! They will NOT send a flatbed if you request it. For that they charge $50. The ONLY way a flatbed free is if the tow truck driver requests it. Usually the "hook" truck has to come first and that wastes a lot of time.
I love the free maps and Lenscrafters has a 30% discount for AAA.
Karl
And, there is no arguing with them about this!
Ever since i have been into sports cars i have had it. The reason being is that i always have had a beater w/ moderate to higher milage and in the event it breaks on me (knock on wood) i have the means to get the car towed to a shop. Besides the travel discounts pay for the card anyway.
