I currently have a '99 coupe that I want to trade in on an '02 Z06. Since it appears that none of the local dealers can tell me exactly when they can get me a car, how do I negotiate a deal with a trade? I am hesitant to give them my car now in case they can't get me an '02 Z06 and I am without a Corvette next summer. Do I have to just order the Z and hope they offer me a decent trade value in the Spring when the car is likely to come in? I don't feel to comfortable with this either as I could end up getting low-balled. Any thoughts or experience with this one?
Many dealers will give you a very low trade-in price. My past experience has led me to tell you that you are much better off if you try to sell your car privately. Best of luck.
Mark,
I would PRE-Trade your 99. Your car is probably worth more right now than it will be in 60-90 days from now. As far as getting an 02 Z06. If your dealer has a decent allocation you will get the car. Shop around they are dealing . I bought my 02 Z06 for $45k and change!! You will get a better deal on an ordered vehicle than a stocked vehicle. Just my experience..Pound on the dealer for a good deal :boxing Go in Late at night, mid week ,30 minutes before closing you will get your BEST deal!!!
i would think this, they can give you trade # now for your car and hold that #til yours comes in .thats what my dealer did.remember this too, check your local tax laws, your trade price is tax deductable or should be any way.so if the dealer gives you 2k less for your 99 its still comes close to the same as you selling private without all the hassle.im thinking a good deal for you would be your trade and about 15k to get into a z06 out the door.check this out i just traded a 01 coupe and a 67 impala for a 01 z06 dead even swap!my sales person made my trade ins the same price as the car he was selling me thus 0 sales tax, thats a 3k or so savings.another option is called a dealer in and out, this is were you find your own buyer for your 99 at retail money then ask your dealer to sell it to this person for you thus saving tax and getting top dollar for your car.most dealers will charge a fee for this approx 500 or so but still well worth it.they do have to stand behind your 99 to the potental buyer.and definatly negotiate price ,these cars are not flying out the door anymore.its a good time to get a good deal.i usally strike a deal up on the net after emailing several dealers, some work with ya, and most wont .good hunting.dont forget they make more than you think and more than you will know. :D
With winter coming to Toronto, the GM dealers there will be hesitant to take a trade. Furthermore the entire consumer climate has changed drastically in the last week. See my other e mail to you about Corvette Canada.
