Default strange autolock action

Hi,

My Vetty, (yes thats her name,) is doing some weird stuff with the locks. They go on and off whether I'm around or not. I can hear them clicking and lights flashing off and on through the garage door. What??? is going on? I dont need a battery in the fob, but I dont think its the fob, as this goes on whether the fob is in the car or in the next building. It is weakening the battery with this action., and I have locked the doors to go into a store and come out finding the doors unlocked.

Any info on this would be helpful. I hate to have to have a diagnostic done at the dealer if its something minor and simple to fix.

The early C5s had the passive entry system. It was discontinued probably because of the problems you describe

Not sure if you can inhibit it but some guys with 97s may know.

This description is courtesy The Corvette Center:

"Passive Keyless Entry

Corvette featured GM’s first Passive Keyless Entry system in 1993. Unlike other remote entry systems that require the push of a button on a key-fob, Corvette’s passive system requires no specific action – simply approach the car with the key-fob transmitter and the doors unlock automatically and the interior lights are turned on. Walk away from the car and the system automatically locks the doors. Conventional keyless entry is now a common feature on many cars and trucks from GM. "

Have you tried turning off the Passive switch on your FOB?

I was told that GM discontinued passive entry because they ran out of frequencies (or code) to transmit. Anyone know for sure?

Hi,
Thanks for the input. I have switched off the passive button on the fob. I havent really tested it yet because of inclement weather, but so far, I havent heard anything going on in the garage.

The passive switch on both Fobs has to be turned off. If the Fob is within a hundred feet or so of the car the car can continue to lock and unlock itself. Once you get past that distance the car will lock itself. The reason it was discontinued was the constant locking and unlocking. They had tried previously in 94 to get it to work and couldn't so tried again with a redesigned system in 97. When I bought my 97 I kept the Fobs hanging in a closet about 20 feet from the car and it would beep the horn and activate the locks all the time until I turned the switch off on both Fobs.
