the 6 is nice, not enuf to trade up for my 5 though. im not really feeling the front/fixed lamps, coulda been a better design. all and all though,a nice car,not a big difference from the 5

I like the C6 convertibles
I am planning to buy a C6 next summer or next fall, assuming my financial situation does not change. I will probably buy a roadster. My biggest concern with the C6 is the problems my buddies have had with the roof on the coupe. I would be afraid to buy a coupe until I was sure that was straightened out. (We really want a vert this time anyway)
I am hoping to keep my C5 coupe so that we can have the best of both worlds. In the meantime, I will be getting my C5 back in new condition (or as new as is possible with a 43K mile car.) This winter I will be taking care of some minor issues and installing new seat covers and foam.

We owe $23k on the wife's new SUV. The C5 is paid off. Once I get the SUV paid off, or close, the C6 will be in the garage. But I love my C5 and only put 862 miles on it in the past 6 months, so I can't say I "need it".

We could afford to pay cash for our 97 6spd low mileage C5 (21,000 miles)! I think that the low production numbers for the 97 will be a plus in years to come.

Reason 1- I don't like the look of the C6
Reason 2- C6 is too much money to use as a daily driver.
Reason 3- Most C6 drivers here are kind of ****** (they don't even wave)
Reason 4- I will need to change my forum name!!!

Had planned to get a C6 when it was introduced (currently have a 2001 C5 with 28,000 miles). When I saw my first one in real life I was really excited - excited because I could see where GM just saved me a bunch of money by helping me make the decision to keep my C5. In my opinion, the C5 is the best car ever offered under $100,000. That said...
I'm not going to say I hate the C6. Just because it looks like a C5 that a Viper rear-ended and popped out the front of, compressing the wheelbase along the way, doesn't make it bad - it just doesn't look like a Corvette to me. Every time I see one I mistake it for a Mitsubishi or something. Nice car, just not as sexy as a C5. It just looks small and to me looks like it should have been the predessor to the C5. Then I checked out the interior - don't like the metal accents, just looks cheap to me (like a Nissan) - love the C5 interior.
C5 over C6:
(1) Main reason "Exterior" looks
(2) "Interior" looks
(3) Everyone keeps asking me if my car is the NEW Corvette
(4) $$$$
On cost factor:
I have been driving new Corvettes most of my life going back to 1972 and the cost is just out of control (not just Corvettes). If you have the "cash" great! If you have to finance this can be a financial disaster. Just look at these actual numbers from "some" of my past new Corvette buys:
1972 - $6,125 paid cash (loaded 454cid chrome everywhere) - back then as a college student I actually saved up enough money in a little over a year working part-time to pay cash!
1977 - $10,700 paid cash (price nearly doubled in 5 years!, 350cid, no chrome-all plastic)
1983 - $23,800 financed ($426/mo on 48mos)
1985 - $32,500 lease - huge mistake ($530/mo for 60mos)
2001 - $45,000 lease rolled into buy at 4 years (after down pmt, $586/mo for first 4 years on lease, now $529/mo for 5 more years - that comes to about a total of $63,348 (at 5.9% interest if it goes to term) and let's not forget warranty is now something you have to buy extra to cover their mistakes - add another $2600 for my extended warranty - you are pretty much talking about the price of a small home and by the time it is paid off virtually no equity. Then there is maintenance, EMTs alone cost me $1800 at Discount tire last time (ready again) - in 1977 a full set of tires was $360. And in 1972 you could pay a car off and still afford to maintain it when the warranty expired - in fact, that was the goal - to get the car paid off and maintain it. Today people like me are scared to death to get a car paid off and have their extended warranty expire - a C5 out of warranty could easily cost someone $10,000 - $20,000 in a single year to fix (on an unlucky year) - who can afford that! If you could, you would probably have a NEW car! So I am not sure if there will be much of a market for some of these used cars in the near future except for rich hobbists. I asked the dealership the other day the cost of a stock replacement muffler on a C5 and he said $750 per side! The last time I bought a muffler it was 50 bucks (ok, I'm showing my age)! But, the chrome wheels, sensors and tires on my C5 I now have are about the same price as my first special order loaded 454 Corvette in 1972!!! Let's get real.
OK - I realize that the C5 is way ahead in engineering over my 1972 - I love it - and it IS the best buy for the money. BUT this will probably be my last Corvette because there is no end in sight to the insanity. A new loaded Corvette has gone up over 10 times in price since 1972 and in my case my income has not gone up 10 times since 1972.
Just to show how insane all of this is, the Dominos Pizza kid delivered my pizza last week in a new C6 (non-Z06 thank God). When I said Pizza Delivery must be where it is at, he said "It was not so bad, I got it on a first time buyer program and THEY WERE GOOD ENOUGH to finance it for me over 10 years!!!" Of course, I cannot verify that, but I do know that with leasing especially, almost anyone can have any car they want tomorrow, but they may never have a financial future.
End rant.

I paid cash for the C5. Cash for the mods.
It's a toy. I'm not going into debt for a toy. I'd probably take out a loan on a C6 and then I'd be worried about modding to my hearts content - worried about residual value.
Besides...who wants to go that slow.
