A colleague of mine and I were speaking of the pinks show this morning and he suggested we race for pinks....
He has a 1929 hot rod with an old 350 ci vette engine with a jaguar chassis pushing around 400 hp auto full chromed out. Not my taste but nice ride just the same.
Mine is a stock '01 A4 vert.
Just wondering the logistics ???
Personally, I think Pinks is a joke. I don't quite understand the premise of spotting the other person car lengths, particularly when you're racing for titles. Maybe I'm getting old, but in my day you ran "what you brung" heads up. My car is pretty fast, but could probably get beat by a Yugo if I spotted it 40 car lengths.

I missed it last night but this season Pinks is going to heads up racing.

We caught the last 10 minutes of "all out"---I liked that but I was not as thrilled with just Pinks---which was on after all out. I can't see racing for pinks and I agree that in my day you ran what you brought to the table and this giving lengths away would have got you laughd at. When we did it the only choice you had was lanes..

Don't do it. He's got a big power to weight advantage. Too risky - you do not want to lose ownership of that beautiful C5.
Pinks all out, 2 vettes made it to the final 16, C5 and C6, but that was as far as they made it, C6 was out run by a Buick Pickup, heads up. Of course I think the V-stacks sticking out of the hood on the Buick might have been a clue of something better then a straight six under the hood. She(woman driver) went on to win it all.

Also, the C5 got beat by a 9 second Nova (I think anyways). Regardless, this car was disqualified later on for being "too fast for a 10 second race." Wonder how far the C5 would have gotten had it not been matched up with that car.
To your original question..........DO NOT race this guy for anything other than bragging rights..........A couple of years ago, I thought I had a pretty hot Mustang ( I know, I know...this is a C5 forum -- just trying to answer his question). I had a built 4.6 in a 97 Cobra and went up against a steet rod with the same engine on an entrance ramp to I90. On a rolling 20 mph start, I got Smoked by five or six car lengths -- he just walked away from me in every gear.........Power to weight ratio is the key here. If they build them right, they may weigh as much a 1/2TON less than you. Practice waving bye-bye if they have any where near the same HP as you do -- plus most rods are not built for top speed and if you have 3.15's or even 3.73's -- you won't stand a chance against a lighter car with 4.11's.........you'd be a LOOSER!

That's part of racing. I disagree with you. I hate to break it to you, but the old days are over. Now it is about negotiating and your driving ability.
In the old days of AHRA before the fancy timing lights with separate delays for the lanes the different class cars got lengths on the drag strip. I.e:, a B stock would get one length over an A stock, etc. What I found out was the cars starting further out on the strip did not get traction that was as good as the guy starting from the starting line and it was extremely difficult to determine if the person with the lengths was really getting an advantage equal to the difference in cars. It was extremely difficult for a J stock car to beat a D stock car with this setup even though the J stock car had a 6 car length advantage.

First off I hate the show PINKS it is a lousy show at best! Then now we have the issue here of your friend why would he want to loose his car to you? Just wondering!
If he really wants to race like stated above just go to the track and have fun make it a soda or lunch or something like that!
