I like the arrows, but I have been told numerous times and have read the PASSPORT provides fewer false signals.

Valentine 1= Best In the world... At a close 2nd= Passport 8500 (X50)
(Blue)~Not the solo, this has a cord. I've already ordered this one. Some are saying that It's now the #1 Detector In the world, but I don't
know...that V1 will be pretty tough to beat If you ask me.
Both are kind of expensive, but worth every penny!!

**Also, don't buy one of those cheap *SS detectors because that crappy thing will give false signals & make everyone's detector's go off like crazy. Some guy was next to me with a cheap looking Radio shack detector & I had to mute the sound of mine B/C It was going off like I had Lazer pointed at me.

While not an expert in the field, but a former L.E.O., I've found the Cobra XRS 797-12 band detector to be quite reliable. It has POP laser and the KA bands, X and K band just to name a few. Signal strength and directional arrows have been quite good. While it runs cost wise in the 170-190.00 range it still picks up the units coming up from behind on any other direction. It has saved my butt several times. I've also found that out on the freeways, a good handheld c.b. will also give you heads up on the moving or parked units. Best prevention is not to speed,,,,,but sometimes you feel the need,,,,do it safely.

Yea I would grab a 8500, but I also am liking the idea of the arrows because of the fact that I mainly only drive the Vette during the spring and summer and going down the shore, it will be nice to know like you guys said where the radar is coming from, so I can either keep going or slow down...

Seems like a good fit for the highway driving, but what about the V1 and around town? Still very effective...?

Best solution, drive the SPEED LIMIT.I just learned my lesson again. Some people are slow learners. Coming home today, my V1 starts screaming full signal. The cop was not running with the radar on, but turning it on when he saw a two fast cars together. Believe me the handcuffs are not a good feeling. He let me go with just a speeding ticket and court date. Sucks to be me.
Might have a used V1 for sale.

#1 best defense..drive smart and be constantly aware of your surroundings. Always be vigilant.
#2 defense- V1 detector. It's saved my butt many times. I don't know how I'd live without the directional arrows and the bogey counter. I too initially balked at the price, but it is worth every penny. I've had mine for 4 years. I believe that it is just as good as the competition in town. Where it really excels is on the open road (much like a C5, come to think of it). I have picked up threats on the highway as far as 4 miles away on the Texas plains.

The two detectors of popular choice are the Escort and the V1. I was lucky enough to have been able to try 'em both before purchase. I opted for the V1. My wife even loves it for when she takes the wheel on long cruises. After she figured out the bands and arrows, it was a piece of cake. I think it saved her butt at least 4 times this past summer.

HAHAHA! I knew it! What shore, and where are you coming from? Lansdowne to Stone Harbor here...

Anyway, keep in mind that most municipalities don't (and aren't allowed to) use radar "around town." I think you're mostly going to be using this for highway use -- and then having the arrows of the V1 is key.

Hope you find a used one -- or, maybe you can pool your Christmas money.

if you want the best radar. goto K40.com purchase the undetectable Remote dual radar/laser protection system. a bit of money but it puts the v-tine and any other cheap radar n laser protection to shame. I can pick up there radar over 7 times the length of there guns.. before they see me on the rd.. ya'll are jokes to beleave a cheap v-tine is better you have no proff I've checked the site.. so stop doggin them out. till you try it and prove it on your website..

As you can imagine or already know a Mill. Yellow Vette with an 18 year old kid driving it... Fast, lol, I'm a pretty easy target.

The reason I am asking is because I'm not going with a V1 or a top of the line Escort, and I know there are quite a few radars out there in the $200 dollar range, thats why I wanted you guys to tell me which one is the best within that price range?

I want it to have as many features as possible, I typically do a lot of highway driving down the shore, or just to have fun, little bit around town, to give you an idea.

Thanks!

I have had a V1 for years and love it. To be honest....it's a combination of smart driving and a detector that helps you stay out of trouble. If your V1 saves you from 1 or 2 tickets...it has payed for itself in my opinion.

If you have to have the arrows, spend the xtra $100. Otherwise, both detectors are pretty much the same in performance...
