I am looking to get a radar for Christmas, something in the $200-250 range. I would get a V1 or something like that, but to be completely honest, I don't need something that expensive. I really don't speed that much, but I do have my moments and it would be nice to have a heads up every now and then.
As you can imagine or already know a Mill. Yellow Vette with an 18 year old kid driving it... Fast, lol, I'm a pretty easy target.
The reason I am asking is because I'm not going with a V1 or a top of the line Escort, and I know there are quite a few radars out there in the $200 dollar range, thats why I wanted you guys to tell me which one is the best within that price range?
I want it to have as many features as possible, I typically do a lot of highway driving down the shore, or just to have fun, little bit around town, to give you an idea.
I've got a Valentine and if I had to do it over, I'd get a radar jammer. No radar detector will keep you safe if the cop is using a laser gun.
They hide out, make visual contact with you, point and shoot. Even if you pick it up, it's too late.
A jammer effectively gives him a no read.
Go to radarbusters.com. Very informative site and they sell them. Not legal in all states though. But it would be almost impossible to get caught.
But if you don't spend the money to do it right, don't waste it.
I just bought a new V1 off the for $350. I had/have a BEL 980 and it saved my *** a couple of times.
I wiped out the firmware by jumpstarting my car with the radar "on". It has happended a couple of times before and I had to send it back to BEL to have the firmware reloaded. Now, they want to sell me a new Radar Detector for $300 instaed of fixing mine again. Too much of a hassel. now it juts sits in a box busted.
Don’t waste your money. Get a good radar detector. V1 is the only way to go.
Get the V1. One early alert will pay for itself. I also have an older high dollar escort in my work truck. The V1 is much better. The escort is about 4 yrs old.
My research has told me that radar jammers are a waste of money.
Nothing is better than common sense and a V1. The trick is not to forget the common sense. Checking your mirrors constantly and just paying attention to your surroundings.
Some people mistaken radar detectors for cop detectors.
The cheaper units will help you around town. But out on the open road you have to have a V1. The cheaper ones have less than half of the range of a V1.

Laser jammers work. Radar jammers don't. None of them. If anyone is considering one, don't waste your money.
I have never liked the power cord hanging all over, so years ago I elected to go "no cord". Granted, the battery powered ones are not as effective but you are only talking yards not miles. I recently purchased a Sensoro Traveller II mainly because it is voice activated which gets your attention. I am very pleased with the unit and only paid $110 on e-bay. Good luck!

Your "down the shore" makes me think you're talking about the Jersey shore -- and if that's the case, you need a v1. If you're talking about cruising on the 42 Freeway or the Parkway, then you know how often the state police cruise up from behind you with no warning at all. The directional arrows on the v1 are worth every penny.
I have had my V-1 for 5 years this christmas. I wouldn't leave home without it. I ran it on my bikes for a couple of years until I gave up the 2 wheels a couple of years ago. Here in the flat land it will pick up the LEO's as far as 2 miles away. When I get any kind of alert I slow down until I can identify where it came from. It has saved me a hundred times. I guess I just speed everywhere I go. Even in my truck. Life is too slow in the outside lane.
Awhile back somebody else posted simular. I told them to Check out Craigs List. Just for the heck of it I looked at the San Diego CL and a guy had a V1 asking $225-$250. I sent the link to a member in New York.
PASSPORT 8500 is a great radar detector and is $100 less.
I have been running one for a few years and am very happy with it. Like others said, don't waist your money on a cheap one your only two options are a V1 or the 8500.

Haha yup down the shore means the Jersey shores haha... and yeah I know exactly how the parkway is, and I don't want it to take ANY more time than it should to get down there If you catch my drift...

The 8500 works great. But I sure do like the arrows on the V1. It's nice to know if they are front of you or behind you.
