Default Delco Battery Part #

Does anyone have the part # for a Delco battery for an 01?, non ZO6. Or how I can get it? Thanks, Paul.

Hi Paul,

May I ask for what reason? I'm just inquiring because almost all dealers do not go by the part number they just go by the battery series like 78-6YR or whatever because we get them from the local AC Delco distributor. Is there anything I can help you with?

Thanks,
Gene.

You might want to look at this poll before you replace the battery with another AC Delco. Not happy reading.

Thanks Gene. I discovered that GM goes by battery series # and not part #. I Had the orig batt in the vette when the battery kept discharging and leaving me stranded. I tested the alternator and it was charging the system at 14 volts. So I simply replaced with a Sears Gold Diehard. All was fine till last week when the car was dead in the garage again. I want to bring the car into the dealer. I have a 6yr/60k warrenty, however I want to replace Diehard with the orig equip so there is no warranty hassel. Not sure if that would even matter?

Dave...Thanks for the series list.
DeeGee...Thanks for the poll.

Your comments don't agree with the pole... AC Delco was listed on top as still performing well. I've had real good luck with mine. I will have to add it is a 04 which came with a Top post so I don't have the leaking problem that some of the side post suffered

View Poll Results: How Has Your Battery Performed?
My AC Delco is still performing well 143 38.24%
My AC Delco died but caused no damage 72 19.25%
My AC Delco died and damaged my car or resulted in problems 17 4.55%
I now have an Optima Red Top and it has performed well 113 30.21%
I now have an Optima Red Top but it has given problems 22 5.88%
I now have an Exide and it has performed well 23 6.15%
now have an Exide but it has given problems 2 0.53%
I now have another type of battery and it has performed well 47 12.57%
I now have another type of battery but it has given problems 5 1.34%

PS: You can call your local parts store that sells AC Delco and they can sell you the factory replacement by just knowing the model and year of car.

I know stats never lie

143 good vs 72 no damage + 17 causing damage
89 bad AC Delcos against 143 good

That said, AC delcos are by far the largest group of batteries fitted to C5s which may go a way towards explaining it. That said its still not a good advertisement.

As Dave 68 says, at least the later AC Ds were modified to solve the problem. I think the risk lies with the members who have older batteries.

Alot of people on here go with the Optima RedTop which is an orbital technology battery with less possiblity of leaking. In case you didn't know, your cars main computer is located directly below your battery and if battery acid drips into it you will have a major problem. I don't care how much warranty you have, I have heard that you just don't want to go through that problem with all the electrical gremlins it can cause. Without a warranty, I heard it is a $5K-$6K repair as they have to replace the computer and wiring harness.

I had an Optima Red Top in my '02 from Feb. '04 until about 6 months ago. I was not using a Battery Tender and since my car only gets used on pretty weekends there were many times when my battery would be nearly discharged when I would try to start it. I bought an Exide Orbital at Sam's for $99 and also a Battery Tender which I usually keep hooked up unless I know I'll be using the car within the next day or two. The computers on a C-5 have a parasitic draw on your battery and will fully discharge a good battery usually within 3 to 4 weeks if the car is not used. The Battery Tender turns on and off automatically to keep your battery fully charged but will not damage your battery. They are sold under many different names. Just be sure to read label before purchasing to find out if it shuts off and comes back on as needed.

There is no way I would put a Delco back in my Vette!

My Exide has 1000 cranking amps which is slightly more than the Red Top has.

I used the RED TOP in my 1999 Z28 for over two years and now have the RED TOP in my 2000 COUPE for about three years and I have never had an issue.

I will never use an ACDELCO battery after reading the nightmare threads about the acid leaking ordeal.

Just to debunk a few myths that are still around:

The AC Delco batteries have been redesigned for much stronger junctions around the terminals. They are still used as OEM in all GM vehicles and are performing well. My original AC Delco battery is 5 and a half years old and is still performing flawlessly. AC Delcos have consistantly topped many of Consumer Reports' grueling tests, including cold cranking, hot and cold and life tests.
And despite what many believe about huge cold cranking amps being an indication of long life, this is not true. A battery is sized for particular types of vehicles; simply throwing a higher CCA battery in your car will NOT guarantee longer life.
My battery has a CCA rating of 550, yet it has outlasted many a higher-CCA battery in C5s.

I think you'd be OK with the DieHard battery unless it turns out that that is the problem. Dealer may not be willing to replace an aftermarket battery for you.
