I think it depends on what you're looking for.

The GTO is a fine car. Roomy, good handling, good size trunk, able to seat four in comfort. It's a wonderful supercar and extremely practical as well.

The Corvette is a sports car. It is not a supercar. It does not seat four, it's much noisier inside, it is awkward to load and unload (although the C5 has a huge trunk relative to its size). It handles much better and it's faster.

Depends on what you want.

But I do think one other factor is key here, the Corvette will have a tremendous resale value particularly when compared with the slow-selling GTO. Three years from now, you'll do much better financially with the Corvette.

I say GTO all the way if its a DD for your wife. She'd be much happier with a GTO for an everyday car. I have driven the GTO and can say it's a very nice car with a great interior. The performance of the LS2 goats is pretty good too. The straight line performance is on par with a C5.

For the guy that said the early GTO's were the real HP cars...get real buddy. The new GTO will beat the old ones in every performance category there is.

95%, except for straight line performance, but it's close enough.
And I used to loathe the fact the renaming of the GTO.
Your wife will get tired of having to climb up to get out of a Vette. GTO looks good, great power, four seats, and a concealed trunk. Can get a pretty new car w/ warranty for the price of a 99-00 Vette.

So 400HP isn't real horsepower? It's more than most of the classic GTOs ever had... The exterior styling on the newer GTOs might be blah, but they certainly aren't "grocery getters". Mine is nearly as fast as my 'Vette, and corners almost as well. The Vette is my favorite, but the GTO is still a blast to drive!

Personal choice, but I would have to say that the responses here will be more toward the Vette (since after all this website is not named "GTOForum.com")!

The old GTOs were no match for today's GTOs in performance, handling, braking, comfort or gas mileage. I agree the new GTOs lack a lot in the styling department, though. But on the other hand, the new GTOs are no match for the newer Corvettes.
So, I don't see where there can be any question on which to pick.
As for my own personal ownership of both kinds of cars, the score right now is: Corvette-13, GTO-0.
I am glad that Pontiac built a car like the new GTO. This country needs cars like that.

If the car is going to be used as a DD, then I think the smart choice would be the GTO. It's simply a more practical car. If, however, you already have another vehicle to fit the "practical" bill, then go with the Vette. IMHO.

HOLDEN built the late model GTO...in Australia, and imported via boat to the USA.

Been there, done that. Sold my 2000 C5 3 months ago and bought a 2005 GTO because I wanted something newer with warranty and the first time I drove it I was really impressed. Then the new wore off. The positives of the GTO are:

Great seats with much better leather than a C5, much quieter, and better fit and finish.

The downsides are it has the most horrific shifter I have ever seen, aftermarket parts are expensive and harder to come by, and the trunk is horrible. They had to put the gas tank in the trunk so the trunk is very Miata like. I could only get one golf bag in there. In the C5 I could get 2 staff bags and two overnight bags for a weekend golf trip.

Long story short, I sold the GTO last week after only 3 months and pick up my Z06 Saturday

Good luck

If you want to be able to haul 3 friends get the GTO. I can't think of any other reason than that.

The newer GTO's are one of the fugliest cars to ever carry an American badge, IMO. If you want to look like you're driving a Toyota, get the GTO. If you want to look like you're driving an American icon, get the 'Vette. It's just that simple.

You're asking this question on the Corvette Forum.......what do you think the overall response will be??? Sounds too me you want the Vette......then go for it!!!
