if you have never driven one i suggest you go test drive one and feel the car...it'll be 100x more helpful than us bantering on about how you should get the vette

Just sold my 05 a4 GTO and got a 04 z51 a4 Vette. After driving the Vette for the last 2 months i dont really miss GTO!

The GTO was a great car , with plenty of power, it would go sideways in 2nd. But i have FALLEN in the love with my Vette, after a Corsa, coldair and tune, its just as fast as my GTO!

I just love the looks of the Vette so much more, and it gets 28mpg, what more could ya ask for.

Get a new GTO, since there are millions left on the lots.

I can only surmise that you're too old to really remember those cars.

I owed a 64, a 67 and a 72 with the 455HO, my bone stock 98 A4 will eat them for lunch and so will the new GTO.

No, it doesn't look as good as any of them, but as far as pure go, they couldn't keept that things tail lights in sight.

I have a 2005 GTO and a 2003 Z06. Both of these cars are very nice in their own way, but they're very different. You really need to decide what's important to you. The Z is clearly a considerably quicker, better handling car. The GTO is a much bigger car, which will accommodate more people, ride smoother, but is still quicker than 95% of the cars on the road.

If you've never had a Corvette, consider the vette strongly. You will never be satisfied until you've owned at least one. However, I'm not sure a 6 year old used car vs. a new GTO is a fair comparison, unless you can you find one of those 'vette worshipers that's never really driven their 2000 yr model car?

Default Vette, of course

Had a 66 and 70 GTO when I was young. Nice cars but didn't help me at all--I am just too ugly. I think a vette would have helped.

Methinks the recent GTO iteration would stomp the snot outta those early cars; straight-line and twisties.

I'd have one as the 'other' car in a minute if i lived in better climate but if i could only have one the GTO don't stand a chance.

That's not all bad. Anonymity has its rewards.

The 2005' 400HP/400LBFT LS2 GTO would be a good race against the pre 2001' 345HP/350LBFT Corvette. The Vette will have the slight edge because of the lighter weight and better aerodynamics. The 2001+(MN6) C5 with 350HP/375LBFT will be able to beat the GTO no problem.
*I would go with the Corvette just because It's a Corvette plain & simple. I think the GTO Is nice, but It looks like a souped up GrandPrix to tell the truth. I found out the reason why the tires are P.245's- I was told that You can't fit anything larger than that on the GTO without rubbing all over the place. They have the optional 18" wheels, but they are even thinner P.235's to accommodate the larger wheel. How can you have 400HP with such a small wheel. The 295's didn't even seem wide enough for the stock Z, 245's would be a nightmare
I.M.H.O The Corvette Is a much better car overall. Also the Insurance Is cheaper granted your driving record Is good. The Vette performs better, gets better gas mileage, looks better+the top comes off on the coupes. Corvette owners are an elite group of people that most wish they could be. If your single, the women would rather ride In the Vette over a GTO anyday too. Go for the Vette!!! You already had a GTO...Switch It up

I realize the new GTO is built in Australia but Pontiac is an American car company so people associate them as American cars. Many "American" cars are not built in America but the money goes back to an American company.

The Holden "GTO" seemed to be an attempt to cash in on the whole retro craze. In this case they ressurected the GTO name and went with an existing car. Two doors, Corvette engine, 6 speed manual. It cost the General peanuts to bring the car to market. New front fascia, add some badges and volia, a GTO is born.

The new, upcoming GTO scheduled to hit the streets in late 07 or early 08 should be a much nicer rendition of the goat.

It could look something like this.

The Vette's a better performer, the GTO's a better daily driver.

I own an 06 GTO, and an 03 Z06. The Goat is my daily driver, is less of a target and it is kinda like running in stealth mode. The Z is my toy and gets much more noticed by everyone. Someone mentioned the trunk, the Goat is no grocery getter, the trunk on the Z holds much more. The interior of the GTO is more refined and the seats much better. My wife loves driving the GTO, but will not go near the Z. Although that is partly the fact that the power scares her and partly worried she might scratch it or worse. She would not be able to handle the guilt.

I can see getting a 6-7 year old GTO with a 6.0L in at. They will not have much value by then. It will be another $5-6000 dollar car. Then make it a fun hot rod. Ill still have my vette
