If you have deep pockets get a procharger set up some ccw track wheels and racing tires new set of Hotckis sway bars and some coil over shocks. Do a little practicing and you should be able to make him buy the beer when the race is over

If not just wave as he blows by you lap after lap and take some money to buy the beer. This is a way lower cost alternative but hard on the ego

Try this

Remote mounted in the rear of the car.....unless he knows what to look for, he'll never be able to tell just by looking at the engine. Only killer is that he'll know once you smash the gas pedal. Has a very destinctive sound!

orrrrrrrrrrrrr, you could trade in on the New Z06 and end the discussion before the race even takes place!

You haven't seen the video posted by a fellow forum member of him running the track and completely blowing a Viper away, have you? I'm guessing if $10,000 is the bet, modding it won't be a problem.

Bring it to MTI or another reputable shop and tell them what you want and they'll deliver! Easiest way.

Look on the bright side...at least you didn't challenge him to a spelling contest.

Just breakin' ***** man. How come the car needs to look stock? You agreed to that? Stock base C5s do not run with Vipers, BTW.

Yes, coilovers replace the stock transverse leaf spring. Do not waste $ on CCW or other big name wheels unless you get bling points. Get a set of Z06 wheels and buy good race rubber.

DO you know the track (RA)? DO you have many track miles in the car? If not, that's a more productive way to spend the $ toward better lap times than power mods. G/L

A stock C5 vs your buddy's viper...you are screwed without some sort of pick me up under the engine bay and in the suspension department. Go have fun, remember that he paid a bunch more money for the viper and you can buy the beer and laugh at what you thought of his az$ end of his car.

i could very well do that but he watches the car every day and it is suspost to be stock v stock but every one knows that is not going to be the case .we agree that the exhaust can be changed and and the air intake can be changed . the bilstins were on the car so they can stay . the way i see it is if he cant see it or here it. its game. so . and the 10.000$ was from a 5.000that i lost with a fully modded toy mr2 turbo w 350 hp. would pass him in the turnes but he would kill me down the strait.i would run out of gear . so i lost and made a double or nothing . this is all of my mad money for the last year . and dont want to use it to mod the car and lose the car so i have to spend very wisely and really only want relevent help please.

I am already registered for Road Atlanta March 4th. Is that when you are running? If so, which Group? As others have said, stock C5 vs a Viper...no way; however, I will be happy to kick his butt for you.

BTW...power & handling are important; however, driving skill is an important factor. How many laps have you run at Road Atlanta compared to him?

That would be my question also. How much track experience do you and the guy you are betting have? And how much specifically at Road Atlanta? The long back straight he's gonna have you for lunch. And possibly the front straight depending on which one of you is willing to dive down the hill harder to T12. The rest of the track might be fair game with just suspension mods and skill. You can hide a T1 suspension under that car if he doesn't know Vettes too well.

You also need some seat time in the Vette on track if you've driven a Mister Two on track. The Vette will not have some of the issues that the MR2 has with its mid-engine setup. The Vette does not snap spin like an MR2. But the Vette has its flaws too. So does the Viper.

According to your rules get some LT headers with high flow cats and x-pipe fed into high flow mufflers. One of the many CAI packages out there will work. Then get it dyno tuned. It'll get you more grunt but not enough for that long back straight. You would need to do cam/head work which he can't see.

T5 at over 100 was my undoing.

No matter how much you put into the car, unless you HAVE EXPERIENCE DRIVING ROAD ATLANTA, you will be in trouble.

Road Atlanta is not for neophites. or anyone who thinks they know how to drive.

Many a professional race car driver has had challanges at Road Atlanta.

Sure you can win in a stock C5, just knock him off the track in the first corner.

I have seen more accidents at T5, than any other location at the track. It almost cost me one time...one damp early morning.
