Maybe when it warms up I can take pictures and show you what happens after repeatedly "slamming" your hood shut.

Mine has been repaired were the two layers of the hood (inner and outer) had started to come apart from the previous owner slamming it shut.

PS: I can drop mine from about a foot and it will latch. I just choose not to after seeing how it had injured my hood.

Not to hijack, but, Zonsolo, what kind of rims are those, they look good.

No problem with mine! But if for some reason I don't get it on the first try I just go over and push it down!

Maybe just a little lube(grease) on the pin will do!

Thanks,Matt

On previous Corvettes I have had stress cracks develop from having mechanics/Avis Lube, etc. press down on the corners and I prefer not to touch the paint if I can help it.

On my C5 if I take my thumb and index finger and position them right in the center of the back ridge of the hood and gently push it from about a height of 6-8" it always closes. If I try the same technique holding the hood anywhere but in the middle one latch will try to engage too soon leaving one to push down. I also find I have better luck if I grab the hood with my right hand while on the passenger side of the car - works 100% of the time for me.

As mentioned... no need to slam... I never do. Lay down then press on each side over the latch.

Here's what I do:

1.) Lower hood all the way down.
2.) Take your palm and gently push down on your hood directly over the retaining clip for the latch on the hood until you hear it "click".
3.) Repeat for other side.

TIP: You can use a microfiber if you are worried your hands are too oily or whatnot.
My hood has never been dropped or slammed.

Properly adjusted, the hood shold latch easily if dropped from about 12". The adjustment mentioned above should allow your hood to close like it should.

That said, I too just lower mine down and then push down on the latch area on each side.

I can understand how you are gun-shy about dropping your hood after your experience.
However, I think slamming a hood from all the way up (is that what the previous owner did?) vs. dropping it from about a foot are as different as comparing apples and oranges. I still can't believe that a hood can get damaged by dropping it from about a foot up. But you have gotten me thinking about revising my technique, though..

Thanks cbx1047cc, adjusted as per your specs (3 turns) down on the adjustment nut and all is ok now. Both sides of hood latch properly when dropped from about a foot. Again thanks!!

I usually drop mine from about a foot, then if it doesn't close all the way i'll push down directly above the latch.
