Default Settle an argument

I challenged a co-worker to find a car cheaper and faster (stock) than my stock Corvette, 2001 vert M6. He found the 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STi that claims a .1 second faster 0-60 time and was a M6 and he compared it to an Automatic Vette.

Is this a fair comparison? I said no...because a professional driver in an automatic or the MN6 would make all the difference, all other things being equal. Am I wrong?

Hi chai1836 -

Well the 2006 STI will not be cheaper than a 2001 vette - he loses right off the bat.

best regards -

Not considering the costs...it depends on the drivers and your definition of "faster".

The Subaru is a fast car. It gets that way because of the turbos and all wheel drive.

The probelm with them is that you have to rev the engine high to get the turbo boost, and you get great traction with the all wheel drive, so the clutch takes the beating.

The Subaru is fast on the track and fast to go through clutches.

Lucky he didn't find the LS2 equipped GTO - they will definitely give you a run for your money in the 1/4 and they are cheaper.

I know your original challenge was to find a cheaper, faster car than the 'Vette but there's no comparison between a Subaru and a Corvette.....we're talking apples and oranges here.

The Subaru "claims" to be faster. What is the definition of "claims"??? I claim that my 01 A4 coupe is .2 faster? I'm sure it depends on drivers and what your definition of "faster" is. ARe we talking 1/4 mile, red light to red light, top end, 0-100, or what?

What is a Subaru anyway??? Who would want something that even sounds like that??? Not me.

http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html

Check this site:
The 2006 WRX STI 0-60 is 4.5 1/4 mile 13.0
The 2001 Vert 0-60 5.1 1/4 mile 13.5

After the 1/4 mile he will be looking at your beautiful exhaust!!

It's a world class rally car, that runs through some of the most challenging race courses on the planet, requiring the highest level of skill to navigate. It takes on courses at high speeds that would literally tear the Corvette to pieces.

Yeah, who the **** would want something like that?

PS, the Subaru WRX's Boxer engine sounds much meaner than the LS1. It doesn't sound farty at all. In fact, its a deeper, richer sound entirely than the LS1.

I'm really disappointed by how ignorant and xenophobic many Corvette people insist on being.

So is the WRX.

Allred: The point of the car is that it's a sedan, and its built form-follows-function. What do you think it should look like? It needs that big fugly hood scoop to keep that intercooler supplied with fresh air.
