Settle an argument
"I challenged a co-worker to find a car cheaper and faster (stock) than my stock Corvette, 2001 vert M6. He found the 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STi that claims a .1 second faster 0-60 time and was a M6 and he compared it to an Automatic Vette."
His first problem is the "challenge" isn't well defined ....
By "cheaper" did the challenge mean "comparing original sticker price" ... or "comparing current market value" ... 'cause if it's current market value there are a ton of cars worth less than his 2001 Vette that are faster (like, say, a 1997 Dodge Viper with a bunch of miles on it).
By "faster" are we talking quarter mile ... top speed ... elapsed time around a particular race track ???
But putting that aside ... don't knock the Subaru folks .... it is (for the price) a very impressive car.
Base price WRX Sti Limited Edition .... $33,495.00
Base price C6 Corvette ................... $44,995.00
WRX .... 293 HP with All Wheel Drive
C6 .... 400 HP with Rear Wheel Drive
WRX curb weight .... 3,351 lbs
C6 curb weight ....... 3,179 lbs
The WRX in the hands of a good driver is scary fast. Keep the turbo spooled up and with all wheel drive they can be flat on the gas coming out of a corner long before you can in the Corvette. The WRX is a fast enough car that a race with a Vette is going to come down to driver skill more than the cars. A good driver in a WRX will beat an average Vette driver every single day of the week.
Some people can look down their nose at a "Subaru", but to me that's the same attitude as some Porsche (and other brand) people have .... "My Porsche is a better car than your Vette 'cause it says Porsche on it".
Respect what people bring to the table. I'd argue that most WRX buyers are smart people who understand the concept of "bang for buck" ... they're getting a lot of bang for their dollars. We love our cars, but don't diss folks who make different choices than we do.
UMMM..Doctor Smarty Pants has spoken. So it is written.
I hate it when I disappoint people.
...AND...I am not afaid of Xenon's!!

Actually, most of the cars on autotrader are set to an ask of more than your base price, and these are for used 2006 WRX STI's.
The average 2001 Corvette (no attempt to discern model) was considerably less that the average 2006 STI WRX.
I like the WRX, and if it were an American made car I would be considering one.
Nice cars.

- go to a tight autoX course and you'll get smoked by and elise larger track, vette wins. Some cars are great on the 1/4 mile but can't turn worth a flip. Just depends on what you mean by "faster"
WRX is a legend!!! How long has it been around? It is downright fugly!!

I like poking at the Corvette Owner Circle Jerk Club when I can.
: This is why I need to stay in OT and away from the floor mat sections.

I like the STi, but I love my vette.
I really could careless about the arguement, I just have the mindset that there will "ALWAYS" be a faster car than the next one, but at least I look good loosing.
Have fun guys!
Don't let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out. Go buy your WRX or Stupidaru or whatever you want. "I" don't want one or two or a dozen of em, and "I" don't care if it is faster on a rally course or a 1/4 mile course. "I" don't drive either. "I" drive mine because "I" love to drive it. Sorry to see you go.....NOT!!! bye

Welcome to the fun act of READING - This is a discussion about which is faster! If you don't care which is faster, why are you in this thread at all? To stroke egos with other people who think the Corvette is the only car in the world?
And yet there manage to be a few people still here in this thread that are real car enthusiasts, and can give respect where it's due.

I really like the STi, think it is a cool little car and respect is often given by me when it is due. I just don't worry about it, because the truth is, if you dump enough money in something you still will have someone out there that is faster/quicker and so forth.

bye.
