Here are the general differences: Speaking for 80% of the population, accounting for 20% being the total opposite of what I say here:

Subaru guys are typically 18-30
Vette Guys are typically 30-60

Subaru guys stand around comparing turbo, suspension, and "JDM" styling changes.
Vette Guys compare floor mats, aftermarket leather, and engine bling.

Subaru Guys like to put Rally Car fog lights on their cars
Vette Guys like to make their coupes and convertibles look like Z06s

Subaru guys are impolite in a social setting, and like to rib each other, A LOT
Vette Guys are grumpy.

Subaru vendors find cool inexpensive stuff for the car, and sell it with a small profit.
Vette vendors find $3.99-8.99 stuff at local hardware stores, call it 'engineered for Corvettes' and sell it for up to ten times the cost.

Subaru guys are much more likely to race their car.
Vette guys are much more likely to wax their car.

Subaru guys talk about how cool random types of cars are.
Vette guys talk about how random types of cars are not Vettes.

Now before anyone gets butthurt, remember this only accounts for 8/10 of the folks I've met at either kind of get together.

Obviously there are many subaru owners who are only interested in "STI-ing" up their regular wrx (which is no different from z06-ing up a regular coupe, mho) and there are vette guys who only wax to keep the brake dust from getting imbedded on track day.

I wave everytime. Even wave at other Vette's when I am in the STi, and Suby's when I am in the Vette. Find myself waving to both in the Frontier too. It's just contagious.

Now for the original question... My STi would beat my 03 AE auto from a stop, gotta love AWD. From a roll is another thing. I have also taken a few other C5 M6 from a stop too. They are usually suprised from a 4 door car.

To all those who say it is a Stupidaru and such, please remember that GM has a stake in Subaru. They like the AWD system.

Hence the coalition effort Saab 92x

GM sold the stake, though.

Did not know they sold, but looks like it was late 2005. Behind the times then.....

I totally agree. I chose to buy a Corvette because I like it, but I can also appreciate other cars. It seems that many people on this forum are so protective of their egos that they resort to dissing any car that's not a Corvette. The STi is a fine car (I was considering one before I bought the Vette). How about sticking to the facts and INTELLIGENTLY discussing the topic, rather than degrading it to an all-out bashing of the STi? It irks me that some people call anything that's Japanese a "ricer" - true ignorance being demonstrated.

WRX STI is a solid performance car, but I'd still buy a corvette anyday over one - unless I really needed a rally car for winter?!?!

Don't really know what is being compared here, an 06 STI to a C5? Doesnt really make sense.

If it comes down to looks though, the C5 wins hands down.

Default got both...STI is quick, but C-6 better car

Hi guys,

I own two C-6's, an '06 modified MN6 (RWHP TBD soon) and a somewhat stock '07 A6 and a 350 RWHP 05 Subaru WRX STI.

IMHO, the C-6 is a better car to drive on trips (which I take many since I drive 85-90K miles a year, unfortunately!) but the STI is more versatile, since it goes in anything such as deep snow with the DCCD (Driver Controlled Center Differential feature which allows 7 adjustments on F-R power split from full lock to Rear only)

I like both cars.... but if I had only one car, I'd have to go with the STI ... living where I do in the Tundra of Upstate New Yawwwk.

I'm lucky and blessed to be able to have a few C-6's so the above ...for now...aint an issue....fortunately!!

That's my $.02

Happy Holidays to all.

Bernie

Opinions are opinions, but it gets ridiculous when people ask factual questions and expect fatual answers. However, here they get answered with a weak biased reply. Believe it or not, most enthusiast forums are not like that. This forum give off a rice-like ignorant attitute at times.

I think he thought that that was some kind of insult. I'm impressed that he could look up my profile and do the math. I notice though that he still didn't answer the question.

I, for one, expect people to say they prefer the Corvette but can appreciate what other cars have to offer (i.e. a little bit of objectivity).

For as old a group as Corvette owners seem to be, there's an awful lot of schoolyard behavior that goes own amongst owners. Certainly more than I've seen in other groups and forums.

I just think it's hilarious how when the Porsche and BMW owners get all snooty about their cars everyone has a great time bitching and moaning about how they need to be more open-minded, get off their high horses, blah, blah blah. But then those very same people turn around and do the exact same thing to other marquees. Pot, meet kettle.

BTW, none of the above means you have to want to buy a WRX, Miata, S2000, or whatever the topic of conversation is. It means you need to open your mind and understand that the Corvette is another car, not the be-all and end-all of vehicles.

Here you go....No I am not twelve. But honestly, I had more intelligence when I was 12 then you ever have. Please forgive me for being able to afford a corvette at an age less than 45. Obiviously you are stuck back in time where you actually think that it takes a lot of money to own a vette. Speak with any 20 something year old and most of them use the word "gay" to describe stupid or lame things. You must not be up on the current slang due to your age. This is what confuses me though, you drive a WRX and you are 45....? So you are an old man in a car that a teenager would drive. A WRX has no appeal to it what so ever nor is it fast. It is a 4 door family car that has a giant wing on the back of it and screams I am a teenager who has just finished watching the Fast and the Furious. Please do yourself a favor and drive it off a cliff as soon as possible because I am sure the neighbors are making fun of you. I guess even old men have a little ricer inside of them.

If the vette A4 has the 2.73 rear for the comparison, you are in trouble. I time mine 0-60 with a calendar.

Now 60-100 is a much quicker run.

To all older forum members,

Please do not take the above poster as an accurate representation of someone in their 20s. People in their 20's don't refer to something as 'gay' if they don't like it. People in their early teens do, and people who are still stuck in their early teens. Most of us have grown past puberty.

Thanks,

I was just talking to my brother on Sunday. He knows a guy who worked for a Subaru dealership, and got a new car to use every 3,000 miles. He had a WRX sti, and his assessment of it was it was "scary fast" but hard to handle due to bad torque steer. That surprised me knowing that they are AWD. None the less, that was his assessment of it after "owning" and driving one.

I've never driven one, or even sat in one. I actually thought about them when I was shopping for a car, but was afraid I wouldn't fit in as I am very tall, but probably should have tried one before making that assumption. I also didn't care for the huge wing, but I'm sure you could either order one special without the wing, or have it removed. I always did like "sleepers", and AWD is great, I have an Audi A6 Quattro.

Can't say I've noticed that in any WRX I've driven.

They understeer a little stock, though.
