Settle an argument

I have nothing against ricers.
The topic was which is faster. The top speed of the 2001 vette is 175 and the Subaru is 155. Which is faster??
Though.
Original poster was talking about 0-60 time, not top speed.
Was the original question answered? I'm not really sure, I was laughing too hard at all the posturing and "mine's bigger than yours". Not that it matters in the scheme of things. But, I'm one of the old guys (50) so I'm a little slow.
Please do not take the above poster as an accurate representation of someone in their 20s. People in their 20's don't refer to something as 'gay' if they don't like it. People in their early teens do, and people who are still stuck in their early teens. Most of us have grown past puberty.
Thanks,

I understand that this is a Corvette forum. I also understand the traditional and usually light-hearted rivalry between Corvettes (well, most domestics) and "rice-burners." But, I get the jist that most of the posters in this thread haven't driven an STi.
I moved here from an 05 STi with full suspension, and an exhaust that WAS deeper sounding than my 02 Z06. For 31k (what I paid), you just can't get a better performing car (unless you dip into the used market). I challenge any of you to take one for a test drive and tell me it's not an amazing machine. Sure, it looks ugly. Heck, that's one of the biggest reasons I moved to the Z06. But, 0-60, it'll give a C5 (non-Z06) a good fight. Top speed run, though? No way. The car is geared for lower speed-acceleration, just the type of stuff that is useful on an Autocross or a rally course. Any corvette will leave the STi in the dust on the highway.
It is truly an amazing car though, even if it does have the wrong marque, the wrong country of origin and the wrong styling.

Its too bad Saab wasn't given the STi as well to work with. I think this is a much better looking impreza:
Rally cars slide through narrow public streets lined with trees, walls, buildings, people, and cliffs.
Sounds like street credit too me.
Subaru guys are typically 18-30
Vette Guys are typically 30-60
Subaru guys stand around comparing turbo, suspension, and "JDM" styling changes.
Vette Guys compare floor mats, aftermarket leather, and engine bling.
Subaru Guys like to put Rally Car fog lights on their cars
Vette Guys like to make their coupes and convertibles look like Z06s
Subaru guys are impolite in a social setting, and like to rib each other, A LOT
Vette Guys are grumpy.
Subaru vendors find cool inexpensive stuff for the car, and sell it with a small profit.
Vette vendors find $3.99-8.99 stuff at local hardware stores, call it 'engineered for Corvettes' and sell it for up to ten times the cost.
Subaru guys are much more likely to race their car.
Vette guys are much more likely to wax their car.
Subaru guys talk about how cool random types of cars are.
Vette guys talk about how random types of cars are not Vettes.

Haha dead on!!!!
I owned my vette since I was 22. I do not use the word gay unless you really are.
Now I would just like to say that vette owners are extremely arrogant. You sit in a 40k 2seater and think you own a ferrari! I am always one of the youngest at a vette gathering and yes I road race! Yes I drive it like i stole the damn thing everytime I jump inside.
Wow the stI is one fugly car not to mention its got 4 doors and a turbo so really its not a fair comparisson!
K well its got half the cylinders of a corvette is that still fair?
I mean it would not be a great car if there was not this much hype on this thread obviously.
You fear it, its better engineered it puts out alot more hp per cylinder and is amazingly fast not to mention awd!
I love my vette and would not trade it for anything... but I am young enough to have manners and respect for all the other car enthusiaists hence the fact that they love their cars just as much as you do yours

So if we disagree with you we are somehow arrogant??
I don't get it.

until then during my travels in the real world, when i come across an STI on the highway and he wants to play, i know for a fact that 9 times out of 10 i'm going to leave him hard. i also know that even if i catch one at a light, even if he get's me out of the hole, 9 out of 10 times i'll fly right back by him with no problem.
now THAT'S street cred.
i have nothing against STI's or any other import for that matter. i respect anything that is built well.

The WRX STi is an incredible car in all aspects including handling, acceleration and looks - that showcases the marvel of Subaru engineering. The AWD platform mated with the turbo boxer motor and rock-solid suspension makes a very potent package that indeed rivals the performance potentials of a base C5. The only reason I didn't pick one up instead of my vette was because the interior wasn't as comfortable as I prefer, and 4 doors introduced the potential of me being a high-speed taxi for my buddies.
For the vette purists out there yes you drive a badass car - but don't try to negate the fact that there are other affordable fast cars out there, just cause they don't fit your political agenda or import vs. domestic styling preferences...
I personally don't care for the styling of the WRX, and I wouldn't buy one for that reason. However, I am not going to say that people who do like it are "ricers" or "gay" or "stupid." I'm simply going to recognize that they have different tastes than I do.
I don't understand why so many people feel the need to put others down because their tastes don't happen to align exactly. Buy and drive what makes you happy, whatever that happens to be, and respect the opinions of others to make the same decision, whether or not it agrees with the decision you made.
Why does everyone feel the need to have to prove they are "right" all the time? If you say "you might have a point there" are your ********* going to fall off or something?
