Default 2002 Z06

I found a 2002 Z06 original owner car with VERY low miles. It's a few hundred miles away and have not seen it in person yet. So my question is did that car have traction control? Also is there anything a person would want to understand that may be a strenght or weakness in this year?

I am very interested in this car so any input from you folks is greatly appreciated...

Denis

NICE. If I get a few more comments like yours I will be a happy camper come next Wednesday.. I have been looking awhile for a Z06 less than 500 miles away, the local ones are all dealers asking big bucks and wont budge!!! Some private party stuff- but so far have still been out of my reach.

I have an 02, great car. I put over 30k miles on it in 2-1/2 yrs, no weakness I can think of, other than spending more time in thecar than with the wife/kids

I also just bought a 02 Z06 about a month or so ago, I drove 1200 miles to get it, then drove it 1200 miles to get it back home. I love it, no issues.

I have an 02 MY since new and wouldn't trrade it for any other car. Perfect all around car for me. (27k miles and most of that to and from Portland, Sears Point, Thunderhill and Laguna. Easy to work on and no issues at all.
By the way I leave the Traction Control on at the track and it has saved my fenders a few times.

Speaking of wife's, mine says there is no way the 02 is the same as the 04. So are there any real differences in the 01 02 03 04?

The reason I ask is the car is for her, we looked at some 03/04's but they were over priced for the condition.. I then found the 02 and I think she feels it is older and less of a car. To me I'll take an older cherry one rather than a newer one thats been beat... But thats me and I dont like to sleep alone

The biggest change is from 01 to 02 and there are some small changes between the other model years. The most significant one is shocks. It will cost about $400 to upgrade to 04 shocks and it is definitely worth it.

Yip she can, she did not want an auto. It's been a challege cuz I am the one that showed her the Z06. Prior to that she was happy to get standard C5/C6 which is plenty of power and the like but , she just has to have the cool one. I will have her read the comments...

Thanks everyone.

Default Go for it....

I love my Black 02' Z06....
Mine had 54,600 miles on it when I picked it up 1 1/2 weeks ago. I drive it everyday and am averaging 20mpg with the occasional high speed blast...

The '01s were 385 hp engines, '02+ are 405. Other than that, most of the other changes were subtle. Obviously options will vary, but all have TC standard. So '02 is a real winner!

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

Depending on what you mean by very low miles and how they got on the car, I seriously doubt you'll be disapointed.

I bought my '02 Z06 in January with 1700 miles and it smelled new still. I haven't looked back and love the car.

From what I have read, about the only real concern with the '02 is the aluminum shift fork - the went to steel in later years. But, I suspect unless you beat the crap out of your car, you'll be fine.

Look at the sticky at the top of this page, all of the difference's are listed there. Off the top of my head....between the 02-03, steel forks, 50th anniversary badges, 02-04, carbon fiber hood(Z16), shocks, thicker headlines, leaner stock tune, late year run cars got a different fuel delivery system, badging/stripes, and I thought I read somewhere that something about the stock tires sizes were different?????

It has 14,000 which to me is very low from what I have seen around here anyway. He bought the car new and says it was his toy not his driver. From the pics and what he said it is perfect in everyway free of chips or imperfections. He just bought a new Z06 thats why this one is selling. He has the window sticker and all records. Claims he drove it like vette but never beat on it or raced it. He asked If I would like to call the vette club he is in to question them about the conditon. Like I said I want a near perfect car and it's bit of a drive for a dissipointment. Guess ya never realy know how someone drove it, all you can do is your best. These cars I do know are pretty darn tough, and will take a long hard beating (to a point). It's not cheap but lower than private party high book. I am at a loss to find anything for a killer deal/cost. I feel lucky just to find a cherry one..

Hi 65 DENCO -

Yes, and No.

I have a 2002 - no problems to speak of (nothing to be afraid of).

The one real issue, and it is not specific to 2002, is the mushy clutch pedal problem - but I have been changing the fluid regularly and that problem has gone away for me.

Other than that, and that your family will not see as much of you since you will be out driving your Z, no problems!

best regards -

Hi 65 Denco,

I bought my 02 EB Z just over a year ago with barely 12K on the odometer. It has just under 17K on it now. This is the most enjoyable car I have ever owned. It's always a head turner and a tire burner.

My '02 Z been dead reliable for me and responds favorably to simple bolt-on modifications. The LS6 engine is very strong in stock form and hellishly powerful when modestly modded.

The 2002 model year is great...and if it's Electron Blue, consider it a bonus. EB paint affords less aerodynamic resistance than the other less slippery colors!

Go for it and be sure to post up pics...include your wifey in the photos of course....preferably an action shot where she is roasting a set of expensive rear rubber.

-Jay
