I have the GSD3's on my GTO and they are great tires.
When we went to change the runflats on the Vette I called TireRack and they turned me on to the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position tires. They don't have the sexy tread pattern of the GY's but I'd go head to head with them anyday.
They're much quieter then the GY's, they have a more predicatible slippage and they are rotatable, theoretically making them last longer. Plus they are cheaper overall. Wet or dry both tires are tops in traction.
Not in any way trying to knock the D3's but give the Bridgestone's a look before you decide.
This is what Car & DRiver said about the Bridgestones:
9th place: Bridgestone Potenza RE050A: "it felt dull and disconnected and was somewhat soft and imprecise when driven hard."
I guess it all depends upon what you compare them to - the GSD3s took the top position in that same tire test. I can understand why!
I just got a new set of GS D3's put on my car and I must say "WOW"...
what a difference they made in my ride. They stick to the road and the traction on wet is superb. I got rid of the EMT's also so I could hear my passenger talk. I knew the EMT's were loud but it's soooooo...nice now.
If you are ready for new tires these are great. (IMO of course)
Completely agree. Turned my C4 into a completely different car. Sooooo quiet, great ride, feels part of the road in the rain and quicker steering response. Glad I decided to spend the extra $$$$$
Got 'em. The only time the wheels "slipped" out under the car on wet roads was through the non discretionary use of the brake pedal and the over enthusiastic use of the gas pedal.
