Well, I know this isnt a C5 related topic, but I was feeling a little down today because its the last day I get to spend with my son before he ships out for Marines boot camp tomorrow. He loves my Z & loves driving it as well. He pretty much loves all cool cars & Vettes. He's a great kid & will make an awesome soldier. When he graduates in April, I'll be out there in California to see it.
Can everyone in the C5 community give him a farewell???
I'm active duty Air Force and I can tell you that he'll be missing his Dad as much as your missing him. I missed my family terribly while I was at Boot camp. Good luck to your son!
You've Got To Be Extremely Proud Of Him. He Is Choosing To Do What 95% Of Our Young People Don't Have The Courage Or The Gratitude To Do, Make A Sacrifice For Their Country.
Please Thank Him For His Service And Wish Him The Best. This Will Be The Greatest Time Of His Life. It Was For Me.
Oh, And Thank You For Raising Such A Fine Young American.
I did ten years in the Marines from '96-'06. He will be fine. The Marines take care of their own. Seeing him graduate will be the proudest day of your life.
Best of luck son, and thank you for defending our country !!! Look forward to the summer time when you get a few weeks of break and come home to drive the vet !
40 years ago this June, I hit the same yellow "foot prints" at MCRD (Marine Corps Recruit Depot), San Diego, and the experience changed me forever.
Your son will make you proud, and be proud of himself, on Graduation Day, as he will be prepared to carry on the long and proud tradition of the United States Marine Corps.
He will have earned the title of being a ...." Marine", an accomplishment that he will be proud of for the rest of his life!
Just a friendly reminder....Don't refer to him as a "soldier"
SEMPER FI.......MARINE!
IF you don't mind, please keep us posted when Graduation Day is and perhaps a bunch of Southern California CF members might just show up....... You never know!!!
I remember that day over 16 years ago! I guarantee he'll be missing you more than you miss him!! Just keep the letters going!
Oh, and DO NOT call him a Soldier!!! He's a Marine! He'll learn to take great offense to being called anything but a Marine. Best of luck to him, I'm sure he'll do just fine!
It's a rare thing when someone volunteers for anything nowadays - it's a truly special man who willingly dedicates his life to the preservation of our way of life and to the principles and security of this unique and great nation.
I'm sure he'll make you proud and make a great Marine.
You must be extremely proud of him. Making a commitment to his Country. We are all very fortunate and blessed to have young men such as him serving our nation and representing us all.
I remember that day in 71 when I left to go. Similiar circumstances that we find ourselves in now. The things I learned and the experiences I got were priceless. Living in San Diego, if there is anything he needs or wants, feel free to let me know. MCRD is a pretty historical place here, and garners a lot of respect.
Best of luck to him, and you guys too
Your son made the best decision of his life. (Active duty Navy here) Even though I was at that same spot not so long ago I'm still amazed when I see the new guys and girls show up on my ship straight out of boot camp. With the way the media and the popular "MTV" opinion of the military is today, it is truly a testament to all the young men and women that volunteer to serve.
Thank you to your son for his service.
p.s. It is also a wonderful reflection of his upbringing.
