Hey all. I'm just wondering if any of you ever get bored with your vette? maybe it's just me, but when I first got my C5 in July 04, I loved it and continued to love it for the past 2 years. However, I'm just finding that I'm getting a bit bored with it. It's nice to put the top down in the summer and cruise around a bit, but with a 2 hour commute daily for work and that, I just don't seem to drive it that much and then it's parked all winter. I guess that I'm not sure if I'm just bored with the car or just sick of making payments on a car that I only drive about 5K miles a year. Now I'm thinking that with a ton of equity in the car is it really worth keeping and losing more money yearly on a car because these C5's, although great cars, are never going to appreciate.
Yes, I know where you are coming from. That is why my Cuda is for sale now. I have a C4 that I absolutely love driving around town on my off days. When I sell my Cuda, I am going to sell my C4 and buy me a C5 to cruise in. The Cuda is a great car, but I just enjoy my Vettes more.
But I do understand getting bored with a car, I have done that a few times in the past myself.
I agree with you on the driving part. I've no desire to jump into my vette after having been on the road all day. What makes the cars fun are the people - try Funfest or Bloomington Gold or some other all corvette event in your area. Plus modding, detailing and tweaking things on the car adds to the enjoyment. My $.02 anyway.
Maybe consider a move to a place where you can drive it year-roound...
Or consider that you could be driving a lesser car with greater depreciation and less smiles per mile.
I can relate to that. Owning a vette has definitely lost its luster. It used to be Corvette owners were Corvette people. Nowadays, it's a bunch of people that just wanna go fast. That, combined with banks that'll hand out a loan to any Tom, Dick, and Harry and you have too wide a spectrum of Corvette owners. They've killed the prestige.
I think the major problem is that you're not using the vette the way its meant to be used. These cars were designed to be driven hard and fast!! I see you live in PA, why don't you sign up for a few HPDE events at Pocono this spring and summer. The instructors there will teach you how to push your vette to its limits on the Pocono Superspeedway.
Also, check out the Northeast section, there's always a ton of events going on. Going on corvette cruises in a pack and forum events is a great way to keep the spirit alive. After almost 5 years of ownership and 40,000+ miles, I am more addicted to my vette than I was the day I bought it, as unbelievable as that may have seemed the day I picked it up.
I wouldn't go as far as saying I was bored with my Vette, but, when mine was a garage queen, I began to question the return vs. the investment. Once my DD was totaled, I named my Vette as my "interim" DD until I got something else. Even with a 70 mile daily commute, I've been using it as my DD for over a year now, no longer considering a different DD, and couldn't be happier!!
Too bad it took totaling my DD to make me appreciate the Vette even more!!
Do you belong to local car club? If you don't try to find a group of guys to join up with. Group activities and outings are a fun way to enjoy the Vet. Save the wave.
