Default GPS windshield suction mount question

Anyone have any problems with the suction mount that comes with most(Garmin) GPS systems? Do they hold without falling? Any other issues? Thanks for any input!

I can appreciate your concern. But my V-1 (it's heavy) stays put surprisingly well.

I had to adjust mine a couple of times but once it stuck it didn't fall. It will eventually work.

I have a Garmin. Tighter than two coats of paint, no problem.

Clean the window with rubbing alcohol first.

For whatever reason it is illegal in California to use the suction mount on the windshield.

My Garmin sits in a bean bag style support, I would have liked the windsheild mount but I was told it can obstruct your view and leaving the suction cup on the glass is a good tip to a theif that you have a portable GPS inside,... but no matter which one you get, it's one great gadget !!

I picked out a NUVI 660 (I believe) for my dad's car. He is having problems keeping it stuck to the windshield, but now that I think about it, the plastic dash outgasses constantly. Cleaning the windshield with ammonia or alcohol should help the cups to stick, and I will suggest that to him, soon.

This is good to know - I'm about to pull the trigger on a Garmin and was wondering about the suction cup mount also.

Especially if you have been using automotive glass cleaner like Invisible Glass. They seem to have glass wax in them. I could not even get my satellite radio to stick which weighs next to nothing until after the alcohol.

Just a quick update. I just put my new GPS system in the Corvette and went for a 2 hour drive on City and Country roads to test out the windshield mount(as well as the Garmin 340). |The mount worked great, no problem with it holding. The GPS worked great also. Easy to use, and straighforward touch screen directions. I'm looking forward to using it for a Road trip to Myrtle Beach for the Corvette show in June. Thanks for all the input!

If I clean the glass first, my Magellan sticks like poop to a blanket. It'll stay there all summer. Resting it on a small piece of sponge on the dash helps considerably. Keeps it from vibrating too.

As soon as it gets cold though, look out, mine will fall off!!

I have a Garmin suction type mount, and every now and then when its cold i have to wait a couple minutes before I mount the GPS cause it will fall, but 99% of the time its perfect
