100% Nitrogen is a scam unless your running Nascar where 1/4 lb pressure makes a difference.
I have 78% nitrogen in mine for free.
Save your money.
I have to agree that the charge was WAY out of line, but having nitrogen in my tires has eliminated me heading off to the gas station for air (not all of them have air here in Dallas - not convenient) as soon as the temps drop outside. In my C3, the car can sit for months (and it does) without dropping a single pound of pressure - it used to drop almost 10 over the same period, same tires. The C5 used to drop the same 10 pounds using just air (78% nitrogen or not). We can go from 105 degrees to below freezing over a period of time, and the nitrogen stays right at 30 pounds. Without it, I used to get in the car and Ding! the DIC went off with Low Tire Pressure warnings... There's a value to the nitrogen fill, but not $15 per tire...
When I got my new tires they filled them with nitrogen for no extra charge. Nitrogen does not expand like regular air when heated therefore the tire pressures remain more constant after tire heats up.
Won't do a darn thing about a nail in the tire however.....I have proof of that!
Didn't read through the whole thread so please forgive me if what I say has already been said.
The reason for using nitrogen is that it contains little to no moisture unlike regular air out of a air pump. When there is moisture in the air as the tires heat up they expand more than they would if there was no moisture in the air increasing the psi more than you might like. Using nitrogen avoids this.
Can't speak to the cost issue because I do not know what is reasonable.
