Default nitrogen in tires???????????????????????

My friend took her car to get one tire replaced on a 2006 Honda and they charged her 320 for one skinny tire. They also said they put nitrogen in all 4 tires for 15 dollars a piece. They said the nitrogen will seal up the hole if a nail goes through it, they also said its lighter and will give you better gas mileage. This sounds like bull to me what do you guys think, and isn’t nitrogen flammable, I think that’s what they put in the zeppelin.

It was hydrogen in the blimp...and $15 a tire is steep. But the molecules are bigger preventing loss of tire pressure. Mine are still running at 30 psi three months after the nitrogen was put in them...

Nitrogen is an generally inert gas ..makes up a lot of what we actually breathe...non flammable...hydrogen was in the Hindenburg and other lighter-than-aircraft...the rest sounds like hogwash...

I think nitrogen is supposed to be less prone to expansion and contraction from temperature changes (resulting in higher and lower pressures) than just airing them up. Might be lighter, too? Dunno. I got nitrogen with my last tire purchase, and I can't really tell any difference. Save your money.

She got took on the price and the reason!

When I got my new tires they filled them with nitrogen for no extra charge. Nitrogen does not expand like regular air when heated therefore the tire pressures remain more constant after tire heats up.

Won't do a darn thing about a nail in the tire however.....I have proof of that!

I just had 4 rebuilt tire pressure sensors mounted today, and I had them inflate each tire with nitrogen instead of regular air. I was charged $4 bucks a tire, plus I can go in anytime and get more if needed for free. That stuff they fed your friend should be put on your plants or lawn as fertilizer.

Actually it's about 78% nitrogen. Anyone who pays 60 bucks to have their tires filled with pure nitrogen, please call me. I've got a bridge in Arizona for sale.

I heard, years ago, that museums use nitrogen in their cars tires because air has moisture in it and nitrogen doesn't. The moisture in the air tends to rot the tires from the inside. Go figure.

Are you sure you meant to say HYDROGEN?

I have never heard of putting hydrogen in a tire

Nitrogen does not expand like regular air when heated therefore the tire pressures remain more constant after tire heats up.

Normally used in race application where there is a ton of heat into the tire. it doesnt matter what gas you put into the tire, if a hole exist, the air, nitrogen, helium, hydrogen, etc will leak out at the same rate. Hydrogen might explode if exposed to heat or spark sound like BS

100% Nitrogen is a scam unless your running Nascar where 1/4 lb pressure makes a difference.

I have 78% nitrogen in mine for free.

Save your money.
