Help with PCV system please
I did some work on my car today and reorganized and checked everything in the engine bay. The PCV hoses had several places with tears in the hoses...so I trashed it all.
I was thinking of going to the local parts store and getting some 3/8 fuel hose along with a T and a check valve to make my own system.
After doing some searching I'm reading that 04s have no check valve and even zo6s have a different system, others are using catch cans.
I am confused by all of this, what should I do? It's a 98 manual with about 360rwhp max and probably won't be doing any more power mods.

Eliminate it all together. I ran my own setup with a catch can for awhile. While it worked ok. I really wanted to get rid of it. Ditched it all for an open breather setup and capped off all the BS ports. I know of many that have done this and it works great. Metco makes a nice breather setup for about $50 that fits perfect.

Remove the plastic oil fill thing from passenger valve cover and it attaches to the valve cover directly.. You can't use a standard parts store one, as it screw locks to the valve cover, not just pushes in..

Hmm thanks Steve.
Any other input? Isn't this system good for anything? Wondering why I'd just remove it when they went through all the trouble to put tons of parts for it in the engine bay.

You can cap all the ports and just use ECS breather cap or make your own. I have personally not seen it but know that a lot of guys are using it and appearantly it works.

Lots of track car owners have added an oil filter or separator in line with the PCV, to keep oil out of the intake. I installed one for $30 in parts. Search the Z06 Discussion site for "PCV" for photos, how-to's, and parts lists.

Hold on a Minute.
If you remove the PCV System you will not pass smog. (assuming you have smog checks in your area.
Also what the guys did not tell you is that with an open system the crankcase blow-by through the open breather may/will in a relatively short period of time put a nice coat of oil mist in the engine bay. With a '98 that's slightly modded and driven aggressively at times you can probably count on it.
BTW there are no real HP gains to be had by eliminating the system.
I suggest replacing the hoses, making sure the PCV is functioning correctly and maybe a catch can. (Although I'm not convinced this is worth it as I see guys with a 2k-3k displaying all the oil in the catch can, usually about 2 oz. that in reality may not be that big of deal over a couple thousand miles - and YES I have one cost me $120 from Elite)
