I just purchased a new set of Tire Pressure Sensors and wondered if there was anyway to determine a manufacturing date. Since these have non-replaceable batteries I am concerned about how long they have been sitting in the bin. I only see two BarCodes with numbers printed beneath as follows on the four sensors (all are part number 25773946 - made in UK - AC Delco):
Sorry I can't help you with the newer ones. The older models have a date stamp on one side. It looks like a clock dial showing the month and then the year is printed under that. I have not seen one of the new modesl up close so maybe someone will chime in. Good luck.
I'd also be interested in how much charge, if any, is lost due to deterioration from age. However, they are not using charge just sitting there since the micro reed switches are open unless closed by centrifugal force (on a moving car) or by way of a magnet. Interesting question. I assume its just like any battery we buy off the shelf for watches, cameras, etc.
On mine, aka the new style, the manufacture date looks like 2 clocks with an arrow pointing to the month and year. I bought mine from someone that sells a bunch of them and even he didn't know that the date is on 'em. Look closely and you will find it.
Thanks for the responses! I pulled them out of the packages and did notice that each on had a little clock dial stamped into the black plastic - all had an arrow pointing to the number 6 on the dial and the arrow was straddled by a 0 and a 6 - so I am assuming June of 2006.
I was concerned for two reasons:
(1) Shelf Life
(2) I read somewhere that these sensors put out a signal every so often on the car - even when parked, but don't know if that is true. If so, I figured they may run down even quicker.
I still ahve 6-1/2 years on my original sensors without a failure, but sinec I am getting ready to swap tires thought it my be the time to switch them sinec these RF are so hard to break down on the large rims.
