Default GHL Exhaust Question

Is the drone bad in the Magnum 4-tip exhaust? The website says the Bullets with the 6" cans have "little to no drone". I like the idea of the louder exhaust with the 5" cans on the Magnum, but I don't want to be kicking myself either.

If you have the Bullets, are you happy with the sound...or would you like a little more? Are they comfortable when cruising?

If you have the Magnum (4-Tip), do you wish you would have gone with the Bullets??

Thanks for any help you can offer...

I have the bullets, but I also have LG street series headers. So I wont be able to make a proper comparison. But I can say, that I definitely dont want it any louder. The tone and volume is perfect to the point where I'm willing to put up with some drone (it's only in 6th gear, between 1500-1700 rpm).

Just last week I ordered the 4 tip Magnum system, but I don't have it yet.. I'll let you know once it's on - It might be a couple weeks though, because the car's still at the body shop. I LOVE the way Chip's car sounds on his site, though

Yes, it sounds good, but I guess I'm looking for more of a comparison between the two exhausts on a stock vehicle.

I too just got my Bullets in last week, and hope to get them on in the next month or so. I've never heard a single complaint about any GHL product though, so I have no worries.

Well, that's just it - At first I had the stock TI's, then I went on to Corsa's, now I'm going to GHL (I see a pattern here just like I followed with my C4 ). I'll be able to compare them to stock TI's, but that's the best I can do.

I am REALLY looking forward to getting this system though

I've got the GHL Magnum Plus on on a fully built 402 motor. I get no drone. I've had stock, Corsa Indy's, Ti's and these. These are perfect! Even my wife likes them more than the Ti's even though they are louder than the Ti's and who cares what the neighbors think.

Is your car an A4 or MN6?

IMHO there is not much difference between the 5" and 6" cans in sound tone.

The 5" have a little more edgy sound to them when above 4000 rpm.
There is a little drone at 1600 but it you have a MN6 it is not an issue.

If you have a A4 and you are drone sensitive than you should go with the Bullets.

(Pre Headers and stuff)
The example I always give for the Magnums is this. I could not hear any drone at all, my wife on the other hand could pick it out, but it was not enough to bother her.

Other than the Corsas, these will be the lowest drone systems out there IMHO

Hope this helps.

Peace
Chip

How do the GHL bullets compare to the Corsa Indy pace cars???? with Dynatech headers????

I have the corsas and I am unsure if I would upgrade the sound going to the bullets???? I want a loud muscle car low mean sound???

Would the GHL bullets be the right choice? would I be much happier with the choice?

Thanks Chip. I have an A4 and I think I'm leaning towards the Bullets. No offense to anyone that has them, but after hearing a couple of Corsa systems in person, I'd rather put up with a little drone.

I put the Bullets and a Corsa x pipe on my A4 last week. I have not noticed any drone. Cruising down the interstate at 70 - 75 mph, my runflats are louder than the exhaust. I love the sound at idle, cruising around and when I put my foot in it!

I had GHL Bullets. Loved them. Great deep muscle car sound. Pop-n-gurgle on decel.

( TPIS LTs, Random tech high flow cats and X-pipe )

But no drone? I would not go that far.

any aftermarket exhaust as drone. dont let anyone tell you there isnt.

if you dont want drone stick with a stock exhaust or mild system.

I had the GHL Magnum plus system which is the 6" can on my 98 A4 which I no longer own.

They had a drone which was not a huge problem unless you were going up hill. Then it was very noticable. I was disappointed because they were supposed to have no drone.

I did not like the way they did the tips, the small pipes entering the flat back of the tips looked odd to me. The other thing was I could never get the two tips adjusted to the same dimentions.

When you first install them they sound almost stock, It takes some time for them to get louder. The first time you start the car is not the way they will sound after some miles are on the car.

A lot of CF members say they don't drone but mine did.

My buddy has Corsa Indys and I thought the GHL sounded better.

On my current vette I went with B&B Route 66. The adjustment was perfect, the tips look better. The B&B looks to be better quality and about $200 less money. I won't know about the sound until I get some miles on them.

Just my observation.

Great point about the tips...I also have been thinking of the Route 66...love the look of the new 3.5" round tips.

I have the bullets and love them on my six speed vert. I tried to hear some in person before buying but never could make it happen. I would recommend them to anyone.

Two years with the 6 inch cans, they are definitely louder then when they were installed. You definitely get drone at around 1500 RPM but its not that bad at all. Wouldnt trade them, this summer I plan on headers when the factory warranty runs out. Good luck with your choice. Tom

I didn't want to go too loud, as I plan to add headers. I think that they'll be about perfect after this is done. I've had nothing but compliments on them.

Yes, drone just equals sound while cruising...and you'll definitely hear a little more sound. With the top up, they're only slightly louder than the noise from my runflats. Personally, I'd rather hear the exhaust.

Apparently, a lot depends on which headers you go with. I have Bullets on an MN6 with LG Pro longtubes. The sound is great, and has gotten louder in the year they have been on. On the other hand, even with 6" cans, I have drone between 1300-1600 rpm, and that has gotten louder, also. It is right between 60 and 73 mph in 6th gear. Since this is right about where the traffic flows during my commute, it's getting real annoying. I'm thinking of going back to stock, or a Z06 Ti system, if I can find one.

I have the bullets. Great all around sound. You can hear the exhaust around 1700 but I would not call it drone. I like it.
