I have no idea where I bought it. It was in a drawer full of misc. springs.
I'm a pack rat. I keep those kind of things for whatever projects.
Mcmaster.com - McMaster Carr has a tremendous selection of this type of hardware. Probably has a rubber boot that would work, also.
BTW, this is an outstanding bit of common sense.
Sure beats the $129 fix listed on another thread.
My FRC is OK now, but as soon as it starts to get to be a problem, I will put this fix into effect.
Oh man, how clever. I am definitely going to try this!!
My trunk has been giving me trouble for quite a while. Not sure what the cause of the problem was, I went to the dealer and shelled out $177 (includes tax) for a new latch mechanism. It seemed to help... a little. I also noticed that the trunk was very fussy as to where I installed it. There is play in the holes.... it is not a direct fit bolt on. Anyway, after 3 positioning tries, I got it to a position where it seemed like it was working the best.
But what I'd really like to know....
What exactly causes this problem... the latch, the trunk lid pistons, or a combination of the two????
Custom Rodders Install Door Poppers After Using Electric Door Openers...they Pay About $40 Each For Thoses,,,they Are Plastic Coated...julianos Is A Good Dist. And Then There Are A Mulitude Of Others...had One In The Trunk Of My 51 Merc...good Job!!!! Thats The Way To Save A Few $$$$ Lou

The real culprit is the latch spring. You can see the latch spring in the picture below that dndrsn posted. It is the wire looking device that you see in the slot to the left and almost directly in line with the center hole in the washer. The latch spring is supposed to push up on the striker with sufficient force to raise the lid enough such that you can get your fingers underneath it. Overtime, the latch spring becomes weak, defective or out of adjustment. Too, some heavier trunk lid liners and such can interfere with it working properly.
[QUOTE=GrayC5;1558830965]dndrsn: Thanks for the sharing the idea/tip!

GrayC5: Thanks for those insights. That explains why when I replaced the latch spring device with a brand new one purchased from the Chevy dealer, there was some improvement. Yet sadly, as many are commenting, the lid still does not raise well. I really like this spring and velco spring stopper idea and will give it a try.
Its weird because if i try and pop my trunk using the keyfob it only pops up about a 1/4". If i pop the trunk using the button on the dash it pops up to the normal height?

anyone know why it does this?
your windows are up and you shut the door before walking to the trunk. thats the fix ive been using since i got the car. the cab is air tight and the pressure from shutting the door opens the lid more.
