I am considering buying a Flowmaster Cat Back Exhaust system for my
C5.. Anyone have a Flowmaster exhaust system?
If so I would love to hear what you think of the Flowaster.
From: 90% of all Fords are still on the road.....the other 10% actually made it home!
Of course this is just my opinion only!
Over the last 15 years I built 8 Street/Strip cars, all of which had Flowmasters on them. IMO, there's "NOTHING" that sounds better than a couple 3" Flowmasters on a streetrod with a big cam and stall.
Fast forward to September 2006. I bought my 98 C5 with a Flowmaster Catback and within 2 days I purchased a Corsa Pace Catback System for it. I absolutely HATE how my car sounded!!! I was actually shocked when I looked underneth the car and seen the Flowmasters on there.
So, if you're looking for that "old school" Flowmaster sound, or even the late 80's & 90's Camaros,.....it definitely doesn't sound like that on C5's. Sorry!!!

On my car when I bought it two years ago. I get compliments on the sound. It is quiet at idle, but nice tone when opening up. I haven't driven my car since Christmas, can't wait till it starts to warm up.

I agree. I had it on my stroker '95 vette...but for some reason I like the Corsa on the C5.
Been running FlowMasters on my 99 / A4 coupe for 4-5 years now...still really like the sound. It has a deeper tone and louder volumn than the TI's I have on my 03.
My 99 had em when I bought it. It was also one of the first things I changed! I got resonance and I hated the tips! But that is only my opinon, which really doesn't mean a hill of beans.
Honestly, you'll have to find someone with some and hear it for yourself to decide...
My 2001 Coupe had the Flowmasters on it when I bought it in Dec. '05. I really like the sound and it's not loud at cruise and around town but a nice sound when I open 'er up. This is a picture just after I bought 'er, now the tires are much thinner, after lots of burnouts and a day at the track last fall. It's a daily driver too, every day it's not snowing here.
STW! Doc
I knew a guy that had the flowmaster setup on his C5, and he said he blew the baffles out twice in the mufflers. When he revved the motor you could hear the baffles rattling around.
I was thinking of the flowmasters until I heard that.
But my car came with an XR-1 Borla system and I wish it was louder.
I used to run FlowMasters on my C5 before I switched them out for the Borlas. The FlowMasters were fine. Sounded a little too much like an F-Body IMO, but the performance should be on par with other catbacks (which is to say minimal).
I got a set used- I'm still warming up to the look of the tips.
BUT
I personally think they are amazing.
Stock- waaay to quiet.
Ti's are good, but still not quite loud enough.
everything else is too loud- IMO.
Idling you are almost stock-quiet. Get on them, they have a great sound.
I find them perfect for the person wanting just a 'little more'. I'll try to post sound clips soon.
You can usually pick up a set used by flowmaster haters for not too much.
I forgot the important bit- when you read all 14+ million exhaust threads, you will notice a bunch speak of droning at certain RPMs. I believe the Borlas are notably bad.
I have not found any droning- top up or down. no weird harmonic vibration or anything. Other FM owners say the same thing.
Got LT headers on the hard and flowmasters for exhaust here on a 98.
LS6 intake and CAI via Honker ... couldnt be happier.
Ill see if i can get you a clip posted ...
As far as the tips ... I see the others all the time ... not sure ive ever seen another set of the double D locally ... IM sure they are some .. but definately they are much rarer

Flowmaster super '40's on my '04 Mustang with headers, SLP catted "X" pipe, it sounds sexy and BAD-***. No drone like my wife's "01 Mustang Bullitt GT WITH STOCK EXHAUST! Maybe I'll make my own catback by welding Flows into stock pipes, so I can keep the oval quad tips, a C-5Corvette touch I really love. Anyone in VA with a stock cat-back they want to part with?
