Here is an ashtray mount I made for Spdnman. This requires cutting of the console though.

I will attempt to explain myself. (and no it's not my time of the month) You stated "isn't there a way to get a cheaper radar from v1" You did not indicate you were looking for a "used" one, but rather you wanted a better price than what V1 sells for.

I would not have reacted to your post if YOU did not make such a big deal out of being a "supporting vendor" to the forum & reflecting such with every post you make. So having said all that, how would you like it if someone made a post like this.
" I really like the products that dgmotorsportsaccessories sells, and am going to by some of them, but does anyone know where I can buy the same parts at a cheaper price".

I don't think you'd like that, and as a supporting vendor myself I would not like that, that sir is my point. No harm intended, good luck on your search, and have a great time on your trip.

I have a general question on the below setup. What is the advantage of having the display so far down where you have to actually look down to see what the threat is and where it's coming from? Isn't the value of having a detector being able to quickly and easily determine what/where the threat is and react to it?

I ask this cause I have mine mounted in the corner of the windshield where I can see it at all times (that I am watching the road, of course) and don't have to look down to see what/where the reported threat is at...

I just made what I was asked to make

However, I would guess audio is the first que (I have a Mirror mount detector, and when I hear the audio I slow down, I do not look to see the source till after the audio que and I am slowed down), once slowed down, one can glance over and see what Band it is.

I am going to guess Spdnman uses the audio as the early warning and takes action, then evaluates the threat...

Also guessin he wants covertness of being able to flip down the cover to hide it over being mounted in view on the windshield (as well as possibly having to remove it from the windshield when not in use).

Maybe he will chime in

I agree, there is no advantage to have display mounted low. Just personal preference. I like being able to close ashtray to hide display when not in use and for concealment. It was also simpler to run wires to foot well fuse box. I bet your A pillar mount works great. I've seen rear view mirror installations and even heads up display installs. It all just takes more $$. Best of luck!

But of course. I'm just concerned with situational awareness; very important when driving.

you shouldnt have to look at it to know what band it is. an x band is kind of a beep, whereas the k band is more of a brap and the ka band is a brapbrap and then theres the laser, youll know when thatone goes off, it makes a bunch of noise

Mabey I'm the only one with this problem, but sometimes I find the signs are so blurry when I go by them that I can't make out the speed. I definitely do not want to cause an accident by slowing down unexpectedly and scaring the guy behind me.:o

It looks like the 8500 isn't the real competition but rather the new 9500i powered by GPS! This unit "permanently eliminates false alerts by location and frequency" as measured by its GPS. It also "provides real-time radar protection based on vehicle speed". It "provides vehicle speed during each alert". "Stores speed traps and other locations in memory". And "automatically adjusts the alert volume based on ambient noise". I wonder if this pin point location based on GPS will outperform the arrows on the V-1????????? At $449.95 it makes you wonder.

Just an observation- you drive the posted speed limit on the expressways in Chicagoland and you either get run over or get the finger. 10-15 over is the norm, so any extra help in detecting LEO's is needed.

I tried that...funny thing, maybe my car is defective, but it only seems to have two modes, fast and really fast. Maybe I should take it back.

Good thread, I am in the market right now and had it down to the Bel STI Driver and the Valentine. Seems that it always turns into a religious war. Is the Valentine shielded like the driver in case I am in the wonderful state of VA?

All I can say is that the V1 with the arrows and Bogey counter has
saved my bacon plenty of times. It is a great unit that you will be
happy with.

The Great Lakes Valentine mirror mount is the one to get. Your V1 mounts directly below the mirror. http://t-rexsoftware.com/greatlakes
I've had mine for over a year and love it!

I had the arrows. Didn't think they were worth $130 (I got a deal on my 8500 X50 for $270). When the detector goes off, I slow down.
