I had it installed in my '02 vert pre delivery in '01 and thank goodness haven't had a reason to use it but have had it "tested" and checked once since. One note it will pay for itself in insurance premium discounts over 2 to 3 years. I paid $600 in '01, I don't know what the price is now. I think it can't hurt at that price. You never know when it could be useful.
lojack a waste of money. I had it installed on my 99 vette. The car was stolen and by the time the lojack was activated it was two hours after he car was gone. Lojack is not activated until the police put the stolen car out on their tella type. That happens after the cops take all your info and forwarded it to headquaters. Also if you have lojack the cops cannot find your car if it is in a below ground garage or in a stel canister used for shipping. Also most crooks know about the various locations for the sending unit. They go for it ASAP.
Best spent money is a electric cut off switch. It disables the starting of the car.

Well, you didn't tell us if your car was recovered or not. What happened?? I put Lojack on my vette. Police still use teletypes? I thought it was all high-tech stuff now. And how do the crooks know about the sending unit. I dont even know where it is.
LoJack was on my car when I bought it used. Mercury insurance gives you a discount on your premium and they waive the deductible if your car is stolen and not recovered. A good deal for me.

I still can't believe that they don't offer a system that can track a car in a shipping container or underground. They have a subsiduary, Boomerang tracking I think), that claims the system they use is fully capable of it. Unfoutanetly the last I heard they still weren't using that system in the US.
First, you might not want to tell the world that your car is equipped with a Lojack. Some thieves consider its hiding place a challenge and they can find one fairly quickly.
Secondly, Lojack makes a more expensive system that will instantly alert you if your car is moved more than a very small distance. This is the one to have if you leave your car out-of-sight for more than an hour at a time.
Another company makes a vehicle tracking system that allows you to track its whereabouts on your computer - handy for parents with teenage drivers.

I got five pieces back. The theives know where the sending units are because they have contacts. When the police put out the info then the lojack is activated. Also if three cars are driving together the police do not know which one has the lojack. I have not heard about a lojack system that is activated by the car not being seen as some one mentioned. My understanding that lojack does not get activated until the police report is filed. On Star is the only system that can track a vehicle once the owner calls into the ON STAR agent. I did get back my purchase price.

The Lojack transmitter lives in the car in a "sleep mode" and is frequency locked to your Vin #. When reported stolen (to the Police) Lojack activates your Vin specific transmitter (just like On Star) and directional receivers are used (most all communities now have Lojack equipment) to track and find the car, It's not designed to foil a car theft, but to "recover" it in a short period of time. I've had New Jersey State Troopers tell me that they would be able to locate my car within the hour they were notified. That's worth $600 to me.
A few years back there was a group of people that were hijacking/stealing freight trailers. This group was caught... By LoJack. What happened is they stole two trucks from a trucking company yard and one of the trucks had LoJack. The police tracked it right to the warehouse they had all the stolen goods and shut down that theft ring.
From what I have heard, you don't have to wait for a police report, just notify LoJack and PD to start looking. The PD always like to catch crooks in the act.
I had Lojack installed on my '04 when I bought it and luckily, I haven't had to use it. From all the other replies, it sounds like you should know how it works now. Lojack has a new feature whereby it alerts you by sending a signal or message to your cell or home phone, diminishing the time before you alert the police. After a few years, it pays for itself by insurance credits. I would go for it.
Up here Boomerang is one of the best, plus adding a conventional alarm be it Viper or a Immobalizer can help.
But plain and simple if they want to take it bad enough they will get it.

This is an interesting thread because a few months ago a CF member posted a story about his C5 getting stolen (via a flatbed presumably). The insurance company wouldn't honor his claim because in their opinion a Corvette can't be stolen because of the security key. They almost insinuated that HE stole his own car. Maybe you can't start a Corvette without the key but you can still hook one and tow it away!
