i bought the one with the blue filters. i like it. easy to install, and it looks good. im not sure if it makes a hp increase, but i have also seen the same kind of setups for alot more money.
i like it. and it's not a scam. i don't know what that guy is talking about.
i belive you can replace the cone filters with K&N's for $35 a pop.
I have been thinking about one of these but very concerned about the quality. I like what I have read from satisfied users and am just about to go on e-bay and buy one.
I was really interested in this type of setup until I read Richard Newton's piece on this subject in his book "CORVETTE C5 - Performance Projects". In it he states that ".....(a Y intake system) seems like a good idea until some people found that the intersection of the two air paths created tremendous turbulance right at the juncture. The result was that LESS air was intering the plenum than with a single filter." (Linear-flow) He also stated that 1) aftermarket air intake/filters don't make the hp figures that the makers "claim" and 2) most invite water injestion into the induction system. The original GM system was intended to keep noise to a minimum and keep water out. (I'm just the messenger....)
I've always had aftermarket intake/filter system on all of my cars. The noise and the "percieved" hp gains ya know. With that in mind I'll save my money until I can afford a good linear system and include a hood seal.
I'm in a slow, calculated trip to improve the looks and a few cost-effective minimal performance mods of my '98 C5. Being retired I need to be mindful of my money.
(BTW: the C5 is the best vette I've owned or driven bar none.)

Reason: mispelled word
Check Ecklers. They have the same thing and are reputable dealers!
thats the thing, Eckler's sell it for a rediculous amount when you can get it much cheaper on ebay. Many people have purchased these and actually recieved them. I am on of those people.

Yeah $22.95 but they all have at least a $20.00 shipping fee so they are anywhere from $40-60.

My question, How difficult to install?
not at all.pull the air filter out and then lift the box assembly up to get the bushings out of the frame, then disconnected the air bride from the intake and pull it out (along with everything attatched to it,tb-air box)
after that it's self explanatory. took me about 20 minutes and thats because i have to look everywhere to find my tools.
I also have this on my 98. It fits perfect and works great. I have a K&N filter on one of my other vehicles and the E-Bay filter is in my opinion comparable in quality.
I understand you are trying to get something on the cheap but do you really want to put that on your corvette? I mean... my steering wheel emblem cost more than that!
I say just save up a few extra bucks and get something thats tried and true.... new or used.
I regularly buy from several of the supporting vendors on this site, the dollars $$$ are not the issue. I just really love a bargain. If this turns out to be a piece of junk, I'll throw it away and post my displeasure, admit my screw up and pay retail for the brand name.
My thought is this is a pretty simple mod. I did a search an then asked questions. Can't find anyone yet that has said the e-bay product is bad, doesn't fit, is junk, etc. I'm thinking the biggest difference on a part like this is "profit margin". There is absolutely nothing wrong with the word profit but even the seller on e-bay selling this for about $45.00 shipped is making a profit, just not as much as the vendor selling it in a much nicer package for several times as much.
