I am wanting to put a remote start system in my car. The vehicle is a daily driver and it can be very cold inside during the winter and very hot on black weather during the summer. My first questions is can I have remote start added of my factory key fob. I would prefer this simply becuase of not having to carry more keys around. If this is not possible, I guess I would just go with what was most recommended. Any opinions?
BTW - I will be having a local shop do the work and I really dont want to throw anything to complicated at them. The easier the install the better.
Get a good one with plenty of features. Make sure it has antigrind that will not try to start the car if it's already running.
You should also get a pin switch in the hood, so if the hood's open the remote cannot start the car if somebody's working on the engine. It should also not be able to start if its in gear. Mainly safety stuff.. it should have a sensor so that it'll turn off it the engine's overheating.
And you wanna be able to STOP the engine via remote too?? (Some of the systems dont have this.)
skytec is what i have my truck , they have one that has a security system that takes a pic and sends back to your remote if someone breaks in , plus 2 way on the start it shows when the vehicle is runnung , and has a range of 3000 ft , works very well .
Dont really have to have it stop the engine to. I also dont want a security system, I know that sounds funny but my car is parked underneath a security camera all day at work, and stays in the garage when I get home. Best security system you could ask for.
Any one know of a system that also can control the remote door locks? I have taken my remotes in to my local chevy dealer twice after replacing the batterys and tehy worked for about a week and then dojnt work anymore. that happened twice. Im also intrested in a remote start but i was under the impression that they didnt work on manual cars. Any more info?
Another way to tackle the problem may be to fit a Window Valet and heated seats. The WV drops the windows before you get to the car and the heated seats are toasty when the temperatures drop. Both are fairly easy mods.
Love the Viper on my conversion van . Nice features , communicates with remote so you know the car has started or not , and also the remote will blink and chirp if alarm has been set off just in case you were indoors and could not hear the siren . Plus it can be programmed for several features by the installing company , you chose what you want a viper to do or not do .
I have mine to start the car then cut off if no one gets in the car in 10 minutes for example .
the remote range is pretty respectable as well .
I installed the Code-Alarm model CA-350 in my daughters Neon for her 2 years ago. It worked great, still does as a matter of fact.
It has plenty of features including, locking and unlocking doors, under hood switch so the remote starter can NOT be activated when the hood is raised, ability to turn on the rear-defroster from the FOB among others.
You can read about it here ====> Code-Alarm CA-350
NOTEI: do not believe there are ANY remote starters that work with manual transmission cars...
I'm pretty sure a remote start can be installed in any car be it an auto or manual. Most shops will not install a remote start in a manual but I don't know if that is a legal restriction or simply a safety one. If you have a remote start put in a car w/a manual transmission and forget to leave it in neutral and remote start it.................guess what is going to happen.

The actual answer is NOTHING...
Just about every manual transmission car made, Corvette's included, for the same safety precautions that you hint about above, will NOT start unless the clutch pedal is to the floor.
So unless you plant a few cinder blocks on the clutch pedal the night before, she ain't starting with a remote start.......

A remote start can be installed on a manual, but the clutch safety switch has to be disengaged.

True, I was referring to the older models that would lurch forward if you tried to start them w/out the clutch pushed in.
You can deffinetly install them on a manual, ive personally done it on 2 C5's. I know on my mustang the way its setup is that I tapped into my neutral safety switch on the trans as well so that it wont start unless its actually in neutral. The other thing is you can wire up a relay so it only bypass the clutch safety switch when remote starting the car. Honestly any remotely qualified shop should have no problem putting a remote start/keyless unit on a vette, its far easier then any bmw/benz thats out. And I know vette guys hate to hear this but more aless its no different then anyother gm to install a remote start/alarm/keyless/security onto
I have one on my chevy truck and it does not work proporly. The starter starts the truck but the trucks anti theft device thinks someone is stealing it and shuts everything down. I have had it to the shop and back to the people who installed it and all i get as a answer is dont use it. I dont have one on my vert but am very leary of them now.
If someone else has had this problem any help would be appreciated. I have to park outside and that would be great to have working again.
Sorry not a vette issue but thought since we were talking about it maybe someone could help.
A local shop is installing remote start next monday that will work off my factory key fob. The shop comes highly recommended and does all of the aftermarket work for the dealership that I work at.
for those who wonder if you can install a starter on a manual...the answer is obviously yes
it is illegal however for anyone to install a started on a car equipped with manual for obvious reasons, most important being that if you accidently leave the car in gear and you start it, it can lunge forward quite a bit, injuring anyone in its way...
but the truth is, mostly all the shops who even install a started will in fact install it in a manual car, but they will never give you a reciept...
i actually plan on working on a sensor that disables the starter when it varifies that the car is in gear, allowing you to start it only when it is in nuetral...
