Ok..its starting to wear on me..when ever I turn my engine off I get this rattle from the engine compartment
Im just checking to see if this is normal for the Z06..Im thinking its not..but..with noisy transmissions and rear ends being normal just thought Id check....
Ive got 14 days left on my bumper to bumper GM warranty...
whoa now i can finally post on things as a USER and OWNER of the car. woo hoo!! first thing i noticed with my EB '02 with 32K miles is a rattle coming from the tranny when the engine is at idle and clutch is engaged. it sounds so cheesy when i turn the engine off. and yes i noticed that if i hold the clutch in OR push the shifter against any gear (with clutch engaged), i dont get the rattle nearly as much. oh well, as long as it's normal and nothing i need to freak about.
.... now if i can just figure out why both my cig lighter plugs aren't getting any power. fuses are good on both, yet neither work. its goin to the chevy dealer tomorrow.
Many previous threads on this. As per your owners manual... car must be in reverse when shutting down. If the car is in reverse when you shut it down, then you must have the clutch pushed in. If you follow this procedure you will not get the rattle. Reverse is the best gear to have the car in to keep it from rolling when you are not in the car.

This is true. Page 99 (I think) in the owners manual
I never leave my car in gear...anyone seem the film of the guy letting his son/friend drive his brand new Shelby 500? Started it right up an drove thru the back wall of the garage

Very Hard to do as no car today will start without you stepping on the brake. Your brake will over power your drive wheels, thats why you can step on the brakes and do a burn out (in other words you would do a burn out but not go flying through the back of the garage). I also doubt that if he didn't push the clutch in the car would have started. He must have thought he was in a forward gear but instead went backwards.
As for not leaving the car in gear... there are a few posts on this sight about the E brake not holding and guys finding thier car out of the parking space they left it in or worse rolling out into the street and hitting things. The e brakes on these cars do leave a bit to be desired.
