It won't stay that way long with a 17/18 setup anyhow.
To answer the original question, there is no technical impact from the alignment of the center caps and valve stems.
Unless your center cap is turning at a different rpm then the wheel you can rip it up all you wish and when you stop, the center cap will still in the same relative position to the valve stem as before.
I too am ****, I even have to have the bowies on the center caps of the wifes Tahoe all set horizontal to the valve stem, LOL..
I probably got that acronym wrong, I just remember going to his office once and seeing "DON Parking" and I asked him who "Don" was. It gave him a pretty good chuckle. He was the offensive navigator for the B-1's before coming to Albuquerque. I think a lot of what he did at Kirtland was pretty secretive, so I'm not sure.
Thanks for what you do, I am always very supportive of those serving our country.
As far as my original question, I still can't seem to come up with any supportive information, so I guess I'll just chalk it up as being **** retentive and BS. Though I must admit, I align my tires and center caps in much the same way.
I talked to some of our local forum members. We all agreed that you can install the flags anyway you want. We agree to refrain from telling ANYONE. Scouts honor.
I know what it is... If your brother is older than you ...he is still trying to boss you!
And... if he is younger than you...he just wants to make you feel like just b/c you are older than him.. you still don't know anything!
I think it really a brother thing!!
Interesting thread. I started one like it a while back and was crucified for even suggensting that the symeterical look of the wheel might be better if the center cap was lined up with the valve stem. No, it doesn't make any difference, except for looks, where the center cap orientation is in relation to the valve stem. It is also interesting that so many spend so much on mods designed to make the car "look better". Interior decal sets, custom seat covers, custom carpets, exterior lettering kits and aero kits. Lets not over look the under hood area either. How much money can a person spend covering up an LS1. As for being **** retentive, give me a break! Garage queens and mod wagons not withstanding this car is an **** retentive persons icon. My Vette is absolutely box stock and if I make sure the center wheel caps are all going the same way who cares. As has been said here often, It's your car do what ever you like to it.

Pres712 beat me to the punch...stuff like that comes out of Show N' Shine judging meets. There are a lot of tie breakers and while I haven't heard of this one per sae, it sounds like it would have come from that background

I seriuosly thought about this form of logic, but if it comes down to him trying to boss me around with some sort of tradition non-sense, he's lost a lot of ground. He's 37 and I'm 29.
Doesn't matter though. Personally I would like to have all of the center caps pointed the same way in respects to the ground, not the valve stem. But if it was a Corvette tradition I would opt for the latter.
It's an old Concours trick and a tie breaker. When I have my tires mounted the Goodyear (or whatever name) is always opposite the valve stem. When I arrive at the show, I jack up the car and make sure the wheel is set proper with the name at the top and the valve stem is on the bottom. With a C-5 stock center caps they will always be "off" center so I purchased a blank set of caps, bought a color matching set of flags from Cyberdine and made sure they are horizontal with the ground. Everyone thinks I'm nuts but my trophy room tells the difference. That's the story....
tires come with a red dot on them that is to be over the valve stem, do you disregard this?
