Oh, so those checkered flags symbolize car show victories. Well, you learn something new every day. I'm suprised so many admit to doing such things. I left the red coil covers off my car because they do nothing and I only wash it every other month or so. I think I am the complete opposite of you guys.
Yep!!!! That has been a "standard". Had to show a dealer parts salesman why he was screwed up. Would you have one tire a black wall and one a white wall? Consistency is the key to pleasing the eye!!!!
Yes, stationed at Kirtland AFB... I like the area, but then again, I'm originally from about 200 miles away, so it's close to home.
Not familiar with the acronym "DON," perhaps "IG?" Not sure, but yeah we have alot of ongoing inspections, etc.
I've been here at Kirtland for the past 5 years, kinda getting ready for a change, but the weather is great for "Corvette Rides," even in the Nov/Dec months...
Look up my friend the Brit at AFOTEC
Give him a hard time - he drives a Porsche 911

Now that is se rios attention to detail. Not sure I could take it that far

I probably got that acronym wrong, I just remember going to his office once and seeing "DON Parking" and I asked him who "Don" was. It gave him a pretty good chuckle. He was the offensive navigator for the B-1's before coming to Albuquerque. I think a lot of what he did at Kirtland was pretty secretive, so I'm not sure.
Thanks for what you do, I am always very supportive of those serving our country.
As far as my original question, I still can't seem to come up with any supportive information, so I guess I'll just chalk it up as being **** retentive and BS. Though I must admit, I align my tires and center caps in much the same way.

It is known as **** RETENTION. Talk to your mother, and she will explain it.
Just being funny!!

I was gonna say....
Funniest thing was I heard one of our local guys told someone this same bologna... we all know he is/was bored with his life, so we just chalked it up to him being bored beyond belief
Next, someone else will tell you all your wheel spokes should all be lined up the same...
Having judged several events I'll verify that details such as this are often used as 'tie breakers' for cars like newer model Corvettes that have very few deficiencies due to lack of use. Other things used are soot in exhaust pipes dirty air filter, signs of use in ashtrays, fingerprints on inside mirrors,,,,you get the picture....
I'm also very particular when detailing the car. I know the neighbors get tired of me messing with the car every 10 minutes. Oh well. I never paid attention to the center caps though. <sigh> Add another item to the list....

With a C-5 stock center caps they will always be "off" center so I purchased a blank set of caps, bought a color matching set of flags from Cyberdine and made sure they are horizontal with the ground. Jim is right, I had heard the exact same thing...Those Concours guys don't miss ANYTHING!
Show trick for those that show (used as tiebreaker from time to time) just a tradition. I don't know the history but I've heard it as long as I've owned Corvettes back to my C4.
I just found out a few days ago that flag poles of the Corvette emblem should always be pointed at the valve stem. What is the history behind this? Is it supposed to be good luck? Maybe it's suppose to give you an extra 5 HP. Any insight into this, or was this guy pulling my leg. I have no reason not to trust him, nor would I think that he would tell me something like this if it wasn't true.
^^^^^ If it were me judging, the expected position of the valve stem would be pointed at either the 12:00 or 6:00 oclock position of the emblem, consistency on all four corners.... Assuming I needed a tie breaker.
