I've been going back and forth. Some people think I'm crazy trading up a Z06 for a CTS-V.. I think I would be too... They sure are nice, though!

Not sure why that's funny . . . I don't care who you are, if you are into fast cars, I hate to see you break your ride. It's no fun at all.

Well... I did that and now I'm really confused! CTS V is a super nice ride! Still has plenty of grunt, but doesn't feel like you're fighting w/ the car to drive it.
Once I got back in the Z, I really noticed how you feel every lump and bump and the steering is extremely tight compared to the CTS V.. Granted, I know the Z is more of a "race car" than the CTS V, but it would be a nice change. Just don't know if it would be nice enough

The CTS-V has a much nicer interior than my Z06, but it's too heavy to be fast, and the rearends are glass.

That's probably the color I'll get when the time comes to part with my Z06 for the CTS-V. I'll get the stock wheels done in black though and with a nice limo tint like this below.

PM - CTSVOWNER
He has a CTS-V and is the co-owner of Horsepower Sales in Pompano Beach. He knows Corvettes backwards and forwards, and just picked up a Z06 for weekends and fun. Maybe he can shed some light on it for you.

Damn, that looks wicked! It's pics like these that's going to push me to get into CTS-V sooner than later.

Any more info on the size of the wheels/tires on it? I'd like to stuff the widest tires underneath front and rear without rubbing.

CCW makes some nice wheels for the V though too...I like the SP600's. We'll see when the time comes.

Default Cts-v

EB-Z06, I've owned 3 Z06's and have had many other fast cars in my life. I buy cars like underwear and can tell you this, I now own a CTS-V. It's Identical to the picture you've shown and the car is a beast. I was shopping at a very high end car lot and looking for a Porsche. When I got out of the Carrera I was test driving, I walked over too the 05 V and was joking around with the sales guy about a 4 door when he suggested taking it for a ride. It was a Saturday and I had time to kill so I said sure. Long story short, I wrote a check on the spot. I had no idea the car had the LS6 in it and the 6 speed made me feel like I was still in my last Vette. While test driving the car, it broke traction going to 3rd gear , I'm home I said to my son. Better than that is the Bose audio system which sounds awsome. You also get the added benifits of XM radio,Onstar, DVD(plays movies), GPS Navigation, and sunroof (I missed the sky in the Z). If your Z just sits and you really want to enjoy your daily drive, get a V. It comes with a 4year 50k bumper to bumper and the GMPP is available for that piece of mind past 50k. When you get ready to trade the Z, give me a call and we'll trade keys. I generally only keep my cars 3 or 4 months and move on to something new.

I agree the CTS-V is a great car. I was surprised at how much grunt it had when I took one for a spin. Not to throw this discussion off topic, if you are seriously looking for a plush, fast daily driver then check out the Mercedes E55. It will blow the V away but its an automatic. I have driven several and can't get over the accelleration at 40mph and you romp on it. 516lb-tq is unbelieveable.

Where was all this interest in the V last month when I was looking to trade mine for a Z06?

Seriously though, I just went the other direction and traded my V for a Z06. Some quick thoughts:

Everyone talks about the glass rear ends. I don't abuse my cars, but I drive them like they're meant to be driven. With the stock 245 series tires and the factory 3.73 rearend, you'll easily get a 3rd gear scratch. I never had an issue with my rearend holding up. Had some minor whine from 40-50mph, but I've had other GM cars with the same issue.

Ammenities were nice; nav, XM, power roof, homelink.

The car is unique, like the Vette, there is no mistaking a CTS on the road for something cheaper.

The V is more user-friendly for daily driving. Easier to get in and out of. More comfortable for sitting in for longer periods.

Careful that you buy the car at a good price because if there is a real weakness with the car, it is resale value.

I miss mine, but would not go back. The Z is just too incredible of a machine. However, like Heavymetals posted, best of both worlds would be to have both. My plan is to do add one back into the stable as a daily driver after the prices drop a bit more. Right now though, I just can't afford to have a V, a Z and our TBSS.

The '04-'05 vs '06-'07 is a bit of a quandry. '04 and '05 had the LS6 which I think is the more desireable motor. Both the LS6 and LS2 cars post nearly identical times. However, the '06-'07 does have the upgraded rearend and if you live in an area that supports it, XM traffic for the nav. The '06's also got steering wheel radio controls.

I don't think you'll go wrong with any of them. They're a great looking car, with LS6 performance.

Oh and if anyone hasn't mentioned; if you're looking to get the best handling stock, look for a car that has the FG2 shock option. If you can't find a car with the FG2 option, you can always add the shocks afterwards; they come up for sale on eBay and other sites pretty regularly.
