Default Cheap performance mods?

Let’s hear your cheap performance modifications that yield horsepower gains. Even if it’s just one or two hp!

The reason I am asking is I found the throttle body coolant bypass mod for about $3.00. Sure it may or may not do any real good. It just seems so cheap I am thinking why not? I live in Houston TX and its warm most of the year and rarely freezes so I don’t have to worry.

It got me to thinking… If that is out there what else can I do?
thanks, hk

hk...

I was in the same situation about 7 months back...thought all the little mods would make a difference......

Dude I was wrong.....some knowledgeable forum members set me straight and showed me the light !!

Save your money....20 here .....60 there.........

Get a CAI.....get some headers....get a TUNE !

Youre not gonna feel the little mods...aka...velocity stacks...etc etc...

They probably do more harm than good anyway !!

My .02 !

I added 10 hp with blackouts, 15 hp with new wheels, and 20 hp with mirror insert letters. Not trying to be a jerk, but the guys are right save up and go for some real mods...full exhaust (headers, x-pipe, cat back, heads, cam...things like that).

Cheap and corvette horsepower do not go well together in the same sentence, nor the same paragraph or perhaps the same page.

ok . . been around the block a bit .. several project cars and a long time at the drags both pittin, drivin, tunin an such.

Cheap horsepower is a blower motor.
Bang for the buck is *tough* to beat.
Don't need a killer cam, hi-flow exhaust, ..
*do* need sticky tires, or plan on a tire budget

Yes .. you'll spend 7-8k for it from ECS or similar .. but it won't be for promises either. -evil grin- .. you *will* be faster.
There isn't any better reason to max out a credit card that I know of
(ok ok .. mebbe flyin a TF-51D Mustang is worth doin that!)

Or .. you can nickel an dime yourself to death with cam, pushrods, headers, cat back systems, 'trick' air flow filters, .. and that list goes on and on for years.. and never quite comes up to blower motor output.

There's just somethin *nice* about hangin that 'supercharged' emblem on the back .. for them Honda's with the trash can muffler hangin out.

Get your girlfriend to ride under the hood and fart into the air intake.

Cheap nitrous.

The guys talking about head and cam kits, blowers, headers and exhaust know what their talking about. They are all good value for your HP return. There are some mods you can do for next to nothing, except your time. You can port your MAF sensor and throttle body. I did this a couple weekends ago and I can tell a big difference in the throttle responce. I'm not sure how much HP it added, if any. But it didnt cost me anything either.

Dont waste time with cheap mods that do nothing, go with a blower, exhaust, intake, or gears. Good Luck and have fun!

As most guys here have said, I'll say the same...do some "Real" mods to see the difference. Personally, I went with Blackwing Intake for about $225 from Ebay, with I consider real CHEAP mod. And it does help.

But to answer your question Tom Porter just gave us another tip. Now, Tom, can you plz tell us how to do it... Cuz its something I haven't done Yet !!!
